Make Your Will Month Information Pack
Recently experienced a significant life change such as moving house, getting married or welcoming a new addition to the family? Chances are you haven t yet got round to updating your Will. To make it easier for you we hold a bi-annual Make Your Will Month where a local solicitor writes you a basic Will or updates your existing Will and waives their fee so you can make a donation to the hospice. You may even choose to make a further gift in your Will to shire Hospice. Why Write Or Update A Will During? Your Will is one of the most important documents you will ever sign and it ensures your estate and possessions can be distributed as you wish. It will also ensure peace of mind and security, not just to you but to those you love, as well as supporting your local hospice. All of the money donated by you for the drafting of the Will is given directly to shire Hospice by your chosen solicitor to help us to provide care and support to local people, their families and carers. Could you leave a gift in your Will? Whatever you can give, your legacy can help secure the future of the care, compassion and comfort we give at the hospice and in the community. If you d like to discuss or find out more about how your donation could help, please call Tamsin Rawlings at shire Hospice on 0115 910 1008 ext 215 or email tamsinrawlings@nottshospice.org 1
Supporting :Your Will shire Hospice Our participating solicitors give their time to take part in and support the care we give to patients. This is only possible through donations and so we ask you to make a donation to Notts Hospice in lieu of the solicitor s usual fee. Any donation, no matter how big or small, will make a difference to the people we care for however, as a guide, a basic Will would usually cost 75-150 and a mirrored Will would cost 150-250. How your donation could help 80could pay for a day s individually tailored care to a patient from health professionals in the relaxed and rehabilitative environment of our Day Therapy Centre. 140 could pay for overnight care to a patient in their own home giving family members a much needed rest knowing our nurse is there to help manage pain and keep their loved one comfortable. 250could provide emotional support for a patient and their family at one of the most difficult times of their life, as well as practical advice to help them live day to day. Every penny you donate will help our nurses and healthcare assistants care for people across shire who are living with life-limiting illnesses and ensure we are there to support their carers and loved ones. 2

Frequently Asked Questions How does Work? Throughout March and October we run a Will making campaign to raise awareness of the importance of having an up to date Will and help raise funds for the hospice through donations and gifts in Wills. We have a network of supporting solicitors who offer the use of their basic Will writing services in return for a donation to the hospice, a gift in a Will or both. When booking your appointment with a participating solicitor please quote Notts Hospice to take part. I have a Will already and just want to make an amendment; can I do this during Make Your Will Month? Yes, just contact a participating solicitor after you ve read through the pack and inform them that you have a Will written and would like to add a codicil. It s a good idea to update your Will from time to time as your circumstances may change and you may change your wishes about what you would like to happen to your estate after your death. What if my Will is complicated? It is a good idea to discuss your Will with the solicitor to see if it falls under the scheme. Some Wills are complicated especially if there are trusts involved and therefore there may be an additional charge levied. Your solicitor will advise you on this. What happens if the solicitor of my choice is fully booked? There are a number of solicitors to choose from, some only offer a few appointments during March and October, there are others able to be more flexible.
