FITNESS Programs H HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING MEDICINE BALL H The HIIT class consists of different burts of calisthenics movements. This will help to target your fast-twitch muscles, which you need for muscle definition and gains in all-around strength. The class consists of a full body workout with circuit exercises, weight training, functional movements and stretching. Take each movement at your own pace. Come breathe, move and sweat! Zumba sessions incorporate interval training that alternates between slow and fast rythms. This class is perfect for all ages and all levels! Led by North Shore Basketball Academy coach Matt Payne, players will learn offensive and defensive concepts and principles and strengethen ball handling and shooting skills. Previous experience playing in games and tournaments is required for this program. BASKETBALL ACADEMY Jr. Basketball Academy is designed for our beginne to intermediate youth players. Led by North Shore Basketball Adacemy coach Ryan Lenarduzzi, the academy will focus on individual skill development and team competition designed to help young players understand the game and develop their skill set. This program is great for new comers and for those that were in the Fall 2018 Academy Program. YOUTH SPORT Programs GIRLS LACROSSE II The LAX program is for girls looking to learn the basics of lacrosse and build on the skills learned in the Fall Program. They will build a solid foundation for competing on the field/ box over time. Girls will learn passing, catching, ground ball work and cradling. This program is coached by the Savannah Smith, coach for U17 NAIG 2017 Team. Ages: 9-13 Duration: January 9-March 27 Day: Wednesday Time: 7:00-8:00 PM Registration Required- email rec@squamish.net RUN JUMP THROW Run Jump Throw (RJT) is a national program developed by Athletics Canada that teaches fundamental movement skills. It is a physical activity program that serves as a strong foundation for all sports, incoporating track and field skills in new and exciting ways. At RJT your kids will throw bean bags, have relay races, jump through hoops and much more! RJT assists children in learning to move efficiently so that they grow into adults and athletes who are active, productive and healthy! YOUTH SPORT Programs NAIG MULTISPORT PROGRAM The North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) is the largest sporting and cultural gathering of Indigenous Peoples in North America. Teams come from all 13 provinces and territories of Canada, as well as 13 regions from the United States. The Games provides Indigenous youth, aged 13-19, an opportunity to showcase their athletic abilities through 14 sports. In 2020 NAIG will be held in Halifax Nova Scotia and Squamish Nation aims to provide our youth atheltes with opportunies to compete at NAIG. The NAIG multi sport program will offer sleected NAIG sports to our youth like archery, volleyball, badminton and canoe/kayak. Instructors/coaches with a speciality in each sport will be hired for the sessions. Exact sport schedule to be annouced January 2019. Ages: 12-19 Duration: January 31-March 28 Day: Thursday Time: 5:30-7:00 PM Registration Required - Email rec@squamish.net WHISTLER BLACKCOMB RIDE Squamish Nation s partnership with Whister Blackcomb provide s our youth excellent opportunities to learn how to ski or board on a world class mountain. The Ride Tribe program is designed for beginner to intermediate skiiers or boarders and will be tuaght by Whistler s expert instructors. Ride Tribe operates on select Sundays during the Whistler Blackcomb Season. Lessons, lift pass and gear rentals are all priovided. Ride Tribe Program is currently at full capacity. Right to Play is a global organization, using the transformative power of play to educate and empower youth. Chief Joe Mathias Centre was awarded a grant from Right To Play, allowing us to partner with this amazing organization and incorporate it into our After School Program. WHAT IS THE PLAY PROGRAM? The Promoting Life-skills in Aboriginal Youth (PLAY) program partners with more than 85 First Nations communities across Canada to deliver un and educational programming. At Chief Joe our program combines sports, physical activities, educational games, arts and crafts and a healthy snack daily. The Right To Play After School Program is currently at maximun capacity. FUNDING INFORMATION SQUAMISH NATION SPORT & RECREATION SUBSIDY This subsidy allocates $150.00 toward registration fees for youth sport and recreation registration fees. $150.00 per SN youth under 18 years old for the fiscal year. This balance must be used by the end of the fiscal year and cannot be carried over into the next fiscal year. Directions: 1. Pay the registration fees up front. 2. Send the receipt issued by the Sport Organization with proof of payment to rec@squamish.net or deliver it in person. Please indicate: -Who the payment is for and their band number. -Your name and band number. -If you need the cheque to be mailed (if so please provide mailing address) 3. Squamish Nation will issue your cheque and a letter indicating your remaining subsidy balance. SQUAMISH NATION COUNCIL SPORT & CULTURE GRANTS The maximum amount allowable for youth under 24 years old is $250.00 per fiscal year. Information about this grant is posted on the Squamish Nation Website and the SN Newsletters for application and cut-off dates. Apply directly through Squamish Nation Council.
