Training Guidelines and Procedures Training Etiquette and Philosophy Attending training sessions is part of your work at People Incorporated. As such, standard work protocol is expected, including arriving on time, as well as using direct and respectful communication and a team approach to working together to solve problems and brainstorm solutions. Sessions are designed to be as interactive as possible to aid the retention of material. As the curriculum is developed further, the website will list resources for each session; you are encouraged to access as many of these resources as possible before class. Time in class can then be spent practicing new skills rather than passively receiving information. During sessions the trainer s role is to present information and explain theory, but also to facilitate learning by providing participants the opportunity to practice new skills, engage in group discussion, and problem-solve client cases and scenarios. The trainer will suggest follow-up reading and web resources for further study, as well as offer recommendations regarding practice opportunities. As an active participant, it is part of your role to explore how to apply the material presented to your client caseload. Since learning is greatly impaired by distraction, and out of respect for the instructor and the other participants, we respectfully ask that you turn your cell phone to silent and refrain from texting during class. Please use the regular breaks to check voicemails, etc. Also, consider not signing up for sessions at times when you are very likely to need to communicate with others (e.g., family or client issues) or be tired (e.g., after working a night shift). Action Planning Training sessions focus on your role and specific skills and interventions that you can try. As such, classes conclude with time for action planning. This is a document that you will fill out during the class asking you to take an idea or two from the session and make a plan to put it into action in your work. This tool, in addition to a post-test, is used by your supervisor or trainers in the future to help you transfer knowledge into practical solutions when working with our clients. American Sign Language Many of People Incorporated s classes are ASL interpreted. If you require the services of an interpreter, click on complete schedule at the top left of the training page of the website, then check the ASL interpreted box to see a complete list of all interpreted trainings. When you sign up, order a People Incorporated Staff Person ASL Interpreted ticket. Please do not sign up for an ASL ticket if you are not hard-of-hearing or deaf because those spots are reserved. Interpreters are cancelled no later than 72 hours before an interpreted class if no deaf or hard-ofhearing staff sign up for the session.
Certificates of Attendance A certificate of attendance will be issued to you if attend a training session in its entirety. The certificate will show the name of the training, the name and credentials of the presenter(s), whether or not the session meets the criteria for Social Work CEUs, the number of People Incorporated in-service training hours, and the signature of the presenter. Copies are sent to the program one for the staff files at the program, and one copy for your personal records. Please note that it is your responsibility to keep copies of your certificates for the purpose of CEU verification with the relevant licensing board. CEUs (Continuing Education Units) People Incorporated is a provider of CEUs for the Minnesota Board of Social Work. Not all trainings at administration qualify for CEUs under the Board s criteria, although many do. Check the website to see if a training session fulfills these criteria. If you hold a professional license (such as Social Work or Nursing, for example), it is your responsibility as the license holder to track the number of hours necessary to retain and renew your license, including renewal dates and procedures, as well as keeping records of your attendance at any trainings including those at People Incorporated. Curriculum Work with your Program Manager to develop a training plan based on your individual career development plan and your competency assessment indicators. In general, concentrate on the bottom of the pyramid before moving up. The foundational level is designed to be applicable for all employees at all times. The integration level is a closer look at how to integrate knowledge and the targeted application looks at specific interventions and applications.

First Aid and CPR It is the policy of People Incorporated that all staff complete a class in First Aid and CPR every 2 years from an accredited provider like Red Cross or American Heart Association. People Incorporated provides a 4-hour combo class (which includes an orientation to the use of AEDs) at least twice a month. In accordance with American Heart Association protocol, these classes are limited in size and tend to fill up quickly as a result. If a People Incorporated First Aid/CPR Combo class is not available before the renewal date on your card, it is your responsibility to find other classes that fulfill this requirement. Please check the Personnel Manual for up-to-date policies regarding reimbursement if you take classes from other vendors. You are responsible for tracking your due date on your completion card(s) and organizing your recertification as far ahead of time as possible. Lateness Please plan on arriving at trainings 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. If you are more than 15 minutes late you will not be allowed to join the session. Your supervisor will receive a record of attendance and will determine if disciplinary action is required with input from the HR Department as appropriate. Mandatory Trainings You are required to attend: Company Orientation (within 2 months of hire) Medication Administration (For all Med Passer positions before administering medications) Medication Administration Review (For all Med Passer positions year 2) Medication Administration Classes The People Incorporated Medication Administration Class is a foundational course in medication administration and People Incorporated s Corporate Medication Policy. If you administer meds to clients then you must complete this course first. If you have prior med training, please check in with your supervisor and the nurse who oversees med passing at your program. Your program will determine whether or not you need to take the class. All med classes are ASL interpreted. Interpreters are cancelled 72 hours before an interpreted class if no deaf or hard-of-hearing staff sign up for the session. The class is 7 hours 8:30am-4:30pm and is always held at the Administration Office. The last 2 hours of the session is a written (open-book) test with a passing grade of 90% followed by a practical test-out supervised by an Registered Nurse. Test marks with supporting comments will be emailed to your supervisor and nurse within 2 working days. Certificates will be issued by the Training Manager when the tests are graded. The graded test and original certificate will be filed at the administration office and a copy of the test is sent to the program. If you do not pass the written test the first time, a 2nd similar test will be emailed to your program for you to have another opportunity to pass. Complete the test and
send/fax it back to administration for the Training Manager to grade. Feel free to email or call the Training Manager if you need to do a retake and need some guidance or have questions about the test or procedure. If you do not pass the test on the 2nd attempt, your supervisor will determine the next course of action. If you do not pass the written test after two attempts you are strongly advised to re-take the class.
