The Greed Problem

Where does greed come from? Why are humans greedy? Greed is a human design flaw. It starts with scarcity thinking, thus acquiring more and hording was originally functional. But a million years later, some humans have all they could ever need, but they can t shutoff their desire for money-making. By that time, they no longer need neighbors to feel safe, and to survive, so they stop caring about others to help each other survive. They become disconnected emotionally and socially. The numbers tell them they are valuable. It is a trick of the mind.

Can Artificial Intelligence figure out a way past greed? There will be people trying to use A.I. to manipulate it toward greed. The wealth gap will grow wider and wider. With A.I., 10 % of the world s human population will soon own 90% of the world s wealth. Their greed-desire would prevent them from seeking to solve global problems.

Mindless G r e e d a c r a t s are people in business or government willing to destroy the planet for paychecks or profit.

Moneyholics Anonymous A Program of Recovery from Money-Making Addiction 1. Some people are obsessed with making more money. 2. It negatively affects their relationships and emotional wellbeing. 3. Their compulsive making-money behavior can lead to the short-term gain of feeling in control and feeling comfortably numb. 4. It can create conflicts that harm families, their business or career. 5. Obsessive, Compulsive, Behavioral Money-Making Addiction can have a detrimental impact on one s life and overall functioning because the person feels like they cannot control the behavior rather, the behavior controls their life. 6. They cannot stop thinking about the behavior, and feel a compulsion, an uncontrollable urge to perform the behavior of money-making. 7. Not only does this have a negative impact on their physical and emotional health, it negatively affects their behavioral and social health as well.

The 12 Steps of Moneyholics Anonymous A Program of Recovery from Money-Making Addiction Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 Step 8 Step 9 Step 10 Step 11 Step 12 We admitted we were powerless over our money-making, that our lives had become unmanageable. We came to believe that our daily wellness process, and others who had or understood our problem, could help us return to and maintain sanity. We made a decision to practice our wellness process each day and seek needed guidance. We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. We admitted to ourselves, and to another human being, the exact nature of our wrongs. We were entirely ready to give up all these defects of character. With humility and openness, we sought to eliminate our shortcomings. We made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all. We made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. We continued to take personal inventory, and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it. We sought through reflection and meditation to improve our connection with serenity, positivity and wisdom, seeking for knowledge of how to act wisely, and strength to do so. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to other money-making addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

For the Newcomer to MMAA and 12 Step Programs If you are new there are bound to be many questions. Some newcomers are looking for that instant fix, a miracle cure or answer for an addiction that took years before it became a problem. Fortunately, the miracle comes as you work the program of recovery. It s suggested that newcomers to MMAA, especially if this is your first 12 step program, take the following actions to avoid relapse: Get in touch with other members on the Member s Forum and in the meetings. Get phone numbers and dial them, don t file them. Call when you are feeling tempted to use money-making methods. Call to check in daily. Join the meetings we have and commit to joining them regularly. Be of service in/at the meetings volunteer to read or lead. Ask questions at the end of the meeting if time allows or call one of the members with questions. Find someone who you are going to be accountable to, a sponsor, and call them daily. Do not be afraid of the temptation to use money-making methods as you may be more tempted in the beginning to relapse. Just don t do it. Do something else. Call someone, help someone, meditate, walk, listen to music, etc. We have found that one day at time, one hour at a time, even one minute at a time is what it takes to get past the desire to make money. Use the Serenity Affirmation or 3 rd Step Affirmation as often as necessary. It works. Use the 3 rd Step Affirmation or other affirmations every morning. Start a DAILY Gratitude List and add to it daily. Share it with your sponsor. Refer to your Gratitude List when you are feeling down and out.

3 rd Step Affirmation I will be Relieved of the bondage of self and take away my difficulties so as to have Victory over them.

Serenity Affirmation I have the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference.

Serenity to Accept Courage to Change
