Peer to Peer: Fundraising Campaign tips What is peer to peer fundraising? Peer to peer fundraising is when you create your own fundraising campaign online and raise money for an organisation or charity via your peers (friends, family, colleagues and broader network) by completing an event or personal challenge. It is also known as social fundraising. Start your own fundraising page The Sanfilippo Children s Foundation website allows you to create a personal fundraising page. You don t need to subscribe to a third party provider which charges fees. Using our platform means all money raised goes directly to our cause. Simply visit www.sanfilippo.org.au/fundraise to get started. You will be sent a URL to your personal page which you can then share with friends and family and across social media.
Peer to Peer fundraising: Here s how! 1 2 Getting the fundraising ball rolling It s sometimes a good idea to get your fundraising off to a good start by making the first donation yourself. Others will soon follow suit and often with a donation of a similar value so consider that when making your inaugural donation. Set a target but donʼt set your target too low! You may be surprised at how quickly you reach your goal. You can adjust your target at any time throughout the campaign. Explain why you are fundraising It s important to include a few sentences about why you re fundraising for the Sanfilippo Children s Foundation. Tell them about the Sanfilippo mission and why you re motivated to make a difference. Include the link to your fundraising page but most importantly explain why you want to help! Why is this cause close to your heart? People love to hear the human connection! Start with your close contacts 3 Send an email to close friends and family and those in your inner circle you think will be most likely to support you, before asking others to donate. People tend to match the amounts already donated, so target your most generous supporters first! Keep in mind not everyone uses social media. A well-timed email to friends and family or colleagues can be just as effective. People are time-poor and often mean to donate but forget so it s OK to remind them. Don t forget any relatives who live overseas who can donate too! Peer 2 Peer Fundraising Tips 2
Peer to Peer Fundraising: Here s how! 4 5 Using Social Media Once you ve sent your first email out, it s time to turn to social media. Use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn to promote your participation in the event and to call for donations. For example, for Facebook simply paste your fundraising page URL into your status update and post. Post a photo of yourself training and remind people that you are running to raise funds for the Sanfilippo Children's Foundation. Take a selfie while running or at the gym to generate interest and inspire your friends and family to keep giving. This will be a visual reminder to those who may have intended to donate but have forgotten. Re-engage with email Don t just send one email, send several. Send one at the start of the campaign and in the days prior to event and then again post event. Emails are easy to overlook and people often open and read quickly intending to follow up but then forget. You can use email to keep people up to date with your progress, with training regime and with how your fundraising is progressing e.g. you ve reached 50 % of your target. Our website will automatically generate an email when you reach the half-way mark and when you reach your target. Forward these on! 6 Say thank you Remember to thank your supporters as donations come in. They automatically get a tax deductible receipt and a thank you email from the Foundation but it s important for them to hear it from you too. There is a field on your fundraising page that allows you to write a personalised thank you message for each donor. You might want to tag and thank people who have already donated to your campaign on social media too! This shows people are getting on-board and will help you to build momentum. Peer to Peer Fundraising: Here s how! 7 Keep on going! Donʼt stop fundraising when the event finishes. Often donations are received after the event is over, so please donʼt stop! Be sure to email your contacts again and include photos taken on the day. Itʼs a great way of letting people know you achieved your goal, and of prompting any last-minute donations. Fundraising often takes a little creativity and persistence, but it s vitally important to the Sanfilippo Children s Foundation, and we know you can do it! Please know that your effort will help us in achieving our vision: to fund medical research so a cure can be found in time for children battling Sanfilippo today and those born with it tomorrow.
