For more information, please contact the applicable ABMS Member Board. ** ABMS Member Boards are currently implementing their ABMS Maintenance of Certification (MOC) programs which enhance the specialty board certification process. ABMS MOC expands the Board Certification process to include learning activities that help physicians continuously evaluate and refine their procedural skills, clinical judgment and service to patients. Since MOC requires ongoing professional activity, particular requirements must be completed before a physician receives an updated certification. The Surgery initially offered a Certificate of Special Qualifications in and a Certificate of Added Qualifications in. The Special Qualifications pathway was closed in ; both certificates were given through. In, the designations of Added and Special Qualifications were dropped and all specialty certificates were designated as Certification in Vascular Surgery. Effective July 1,, the Surgery re-designated its certificate in Vascular Surgery from that of subcertification to one of general certification. The certificates of surgeons certifying in Vascular Surgery by this new pathway are identical to those previously issued for successful certification/recertification in Vascular Surgery. 8. The Obstetrics and Gynecology offers a voluntary annual recertification. For more information, contact that board directly. 9. Certification issued by The Pediatrics after January 1, 20 no longer contains an end date as Maintenance of Certification is a continuous process.
