HOPE RIDES AGAIN. SINCE 2004, NIKE HAS HELPED THE LANCE ARMSTRONG FOUNDATION RAISE OVER $80,000,000 TO HELP FIGHT CANCER. LIVESTRONG.org
For more than a decade the Lance Armstrong Foundation s mission has been to inspire and empower people affected by cancer. We exist to support survivors, their families, caregivers, healthcare providers and anyone else who is touched by this disease. We ve made a tremendous amount of progress in the fight against cancer, including having both U.S. presidential candidates go on the record with their cancer plans prior to the election, promoting new legislation to support the fight against cancer and launching the LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Campaign. Despite these and other successes, it is not nearly enough. As long as cancer remains one of the leading causes of death around the world, we must continue to fight this disease. We started off as a small foundation in 1997 to help testicular cancer survivors. Now we ve expanded - in size, from helping a few hundred people our first year to helping millions in 2008; in our focus, from testicular to all forms of cancer; and in scope, from fighting this disease in the United States to taking the fight around the world. Through it all, Nike has been an amazing partner. Starting with the yellow wristband, which currently counts 70 million wearers, and through the LIVESTRONG Collection, we have created what has become an iconic symbol of hope and inspiration to millions around the world. We could not have done this without you. I am humbled by the effort and energy given by so many to bring our message to life. I look forward to seeing what we accomplish together in the future. My thanks to each one of you for being part of the global cancer fight. LIVESTRONG, Doug Ulman President and CEO, Lance Armstrong Foundation

Unity is strength. Knowledge is power. Attitude is everything. Making Cancer a Global Priority At the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF), we fight for the more than 28 million people around the world living with cancer today. There can be and should be life after cancer for more people. That s why we kick in at the moment of diagnosis, giving people the resources and support they need to fight cancer head-on. We find innovative ways to raise awareness, fund research and end the stigma about cancer that many survivors face. We connect people and communities to drive social change, and we call for state, national and world leaders to help fight this disease. Anyone, anywhere can join our fight against cancer. For more than 10 years, the LAF has partnered with other organizations and dedicated advocates to make cancer a national priority in the United States. In 2009, we are taking the cancer fight global with the LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Campaign. More than 12 million people worldwide are diagnosed with cancer and eight million will die from the disease each year. To address this global cancer burden, the LAF joined with local partners, organizations and world leaders to achieve three major goals. 1. Together we will end the stigma of cancer and turn cancer victims into cancer survivors. Millions of people around the world suffer from cancer in isolation, victims not only of the disease but of social stigma. For all too many, a diagnosis of cancer can result in ostracism from colleagues, friends and even family, and cancer becomes a shameful condition that must be hidden. This stigma leads to a lack of early detection, failure to seek treatment and an increase in cancer mortality. 2. Together we will build an international grassroots movement that will take cancer from isolation to collaboration. Research shows increased mortality is often caused by a lack of resources and knowledge related to cancer awareness, screening, prevention, treatment and care. However, a third of cancers could be cured if detected early and treated adequately. 3. Together with world leaders, we will transform cancer from obscurity to priority. Cancer kills more people than malaria, tuberculosis and AIDS combined. However, many governments devote few resources to fighting cancer and collect little information about its causes and effects. The LAF will work with world leaders to focus on developing international partnerships, cancer advocacy, research and data collection. The year kicked off with a LIVESTRONG presence in Australia for the Tour Down Under and the Amgen Tour of California. We just returned from Italy, our latest stop of the LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Campaign, where yellow has taken over the streets of the Giro d Italia in the form of chalk, cheer cards and yellow wristbands. Wherever we go, people are drawn to the LIVESTRONG message and they re inspired to get involved. Join us and help make cancer a global priority at LIVESTRONG.org.
