BAHAGIAN A (50 MARKAH) SECTION A (50 MARKS) Jawab SEMUA soalan. Answer ALL questions. 1. (a) Cecair hablur mempunyai sifat-sifat yang mencirikan cecair dan hablur (pepejal). Cecair hablur juga mempunyai beberapa ciri unik yang tidak terdapat pada cecair atau hablur. Berikan dua sifat-sifat unik cecair hablur tersebut. Liquid crystals possess properties characteristics of both liquid and crystal (solid). Liquid crystals also possess some unique properties which are not found in either liquid or crystal. Give two of these unique properties of liquid crystals. (4 markah/marks) Jangka suhu cecair hablur dibuat daripada bahan yang mempunyai fasa kolesterik (nematik kiral). Berdasarkan organisasi molekul cecair hablur kolesterik, terangkan bagaimana cecair hablur tersebut bertukar warna dengan suhu dan bagaimana jangka suhu cecair hablur tersebut berfungsi. A liquid crystal thermometer is made of a substance which has a cholesteric (chiral nematic) phase. Based on the molecular organization of the cholesteric liquid crystals, explain how the liquid crystals change colour with temperature and how the liquid crystal thermometer works. (a) Sila rujuk mesogen liotropik berikut:- Refer to the following lyotropic mesogen:- (i) Nyatakan jenis Molekul X mesogen liotropik bagi molekul X. Molecule X Berikan definisi mesogen liotropik tersebut. State the type of lyotropic mesogen for molecule X. Provide a definition for this lyotropic mesogen. (ii) Apakah daya pendorong bagi pembentukan fasa molekul X? What is the driving force for phase formation of molecule X? (iii) Nyatakan dan lakarkan fasa yang boleh dibentuk oleh molekul X. Sketch and explain the shape of 2 H-NMR spectra of lamellar, hexagonal and cubic phases. Pada suhu dan kepekatan tertentu, sistem liotropik molekul Y menunjukkan kewujudan bersama tiga mesofasa iaitu heksagonal, kubik dan lamellar.
