A comprehensive approach Safeguard your staff, business and customers from irresponsible use of alcohol and illicit drugs. Alcohol and drugs misuse in the workplace is a growing problem that disrupts teamwork, reduces productivity, damages customer relationships and, ultimately, shrinks profit. Perhaps most importantly, it poses a real risk to the health and safety of fellow workers, and to the individuals responsible. Other services Policy review and advice There are no magic answers when it comes to combating drug and alcohol misuse in the workplace. Substance abuse is a perennial problem throughout society to which there is no universal or lasting solution. Combating these workplace offences requires an internal policing policy that is rigorously observed, well publicised in the workplace, and delivered with a light touch that is acceptable to the workforce. The most effective screening programmes are those which routinely test new starters and employees applying for transfers and promotion with unannounced, random tests at any time. It all starts with a consultation LGC are here to help you to develop workplace policies that are thorough, practical and acceptable to your workforce and which fit in with the way your business is run. We can assess your current policy and make recommendations drawing on legislation and best practice experience. LGC s policy advice is available to organisations with an existing policy and also to those looking at introducing a drug and alcohol testing programme. Medical review officer provision LGC interpret the results for you, build a picture of the circumstances under which the misuse took place, and assess the implications in terms of employment law, health and safety legislation and opportunities for employee counselling and rehabilitation. In addition, LGC offer an independent medical review service providing independent and confidential review of positive results by qualified medical practitioners. The role of the MRO is to review and interpret laboratory results obtained through a drug and alcohol testing programme in conjunction with the individuals medical history and any other relevant information (such as dietary intake). The MRO process protects both the individual and the organisation from the risk of wrongful accusations which may occur when legitimate medications have been used and which can result in both distress for the individual and adverse publicity for the organisation. Expert witness LGC interpret the results of the drug tests for you, build a picture of the under which the misuse, and assess the implications in terms of employment law, health and safety legislation and opportunities for employee counselling and rehabilitation. In addition, LGC offer an expert witness service which can be provided in a number of ways, but most commonly as: 1. A full written report and statement for use as evidence in court or investigations etc. 2. In person via appearance in court or as part of investigations etc. Our expert toxicologists have vast experience in the field of drug testing and this service allows the interpretation of results explaining the test procedure from sample collection through to results. An expert witness report provides you with professional and objective evidence regarding the chain of custody in place to protect the sample integrity, a description of the testing procedure and the results. Our scientists have made thousands of witness statements in court, and at military adjudications and industrial tribunals. Expert support and training We provide you with the tools, the training and the back up to enable you to run your own screening programmes. We publish drugs trends statistics along with other information and advisory bulletins and offer Home Office approved training to help you learn what signs to look for, screen for commonly encountered drugs, recognise different types of drugs and take the best samples for analysis and reliable interpretation. We can show your team how to go about gathering and recording samples so that it is easier to piece them together and whenever you need urgent expert advice, guidance or direct scientific assistance, you can call us. Collection network LGC, via our approved partners, offer a comprehensive sample collection service. We offer you a scheduled and un-scheduled programme where a fully trained collection technician will come to your workplace to carry out your screening and testing requirements. We offer a guaranteed response time throughout the UK and Ireland, with any outlying areas, isles or islands on request. Further investment in this area in 2013 will drive down our response time to within 90 minutes ensuring that we continue to provide our customers with the quickest response times. Our collection service is available 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Our collection technicians are trained and certified to administer alcohol and drug testing to the required UK Chain-of-Custody standard whether urine, oral fluid or hair. We can also provide an independent Random Selection Programme, which would enable you to demonstrate that your testing programme is fair, reliable and legally defensible. 4
