A GP referral may not be necessary, just give the team a call and we ll give you all the information you require. You ll be seen by a consultant breast surgeon and a specialist nurse will be present. Your consultant will assess your concerns, undertake a medical history and breast examination as well as any appropriate diagnostic investigations, should they be required. In many cases, after this one visit, you ll receive your results and your peace of mind will be restored. Should you need to wait for biopsy results, we will ensure you know the outcome as soon as possible.

The Breast Health Practice Prompt appointments - generally within one to two working days. A full range of diagnostic techniques are available, which include: Digital mammogram Digital mammograms produce better quality pictures and a lower x-ray dose than analogue mammograms and are better at finding abnormalities in younger women and those who have denser breast tissue. Breast ultrasound This is a painless procedure which uses high frequency sound waves to build up a picture of the breast. Fine needle aspiration Fine needle aspirations are used to take a sample of cells for analysis. This is a quick and simple procedure which may sometimes be carried out with ultrasound guidance. Core biopsy This is the most common type of biopsy. A needle is used to take a small piece of tissue for analysis. Often some local anaesthetic will be used to numb the area before the biopsy is taken.

Fast results - the team aims to carry out all the investigations needed at your first appointment, with biopsy results reported back within a few days. An experienced and supportive team - our multi- disciplinary team of breast specialists and support staff ensure you receive the best possible care and treatment. Consultant-led care - our consultants are respected, trusted and experienced in their field. You can be rest assured that you ll be treated by the same specialist breast consultant throughout diagnosis and treatment, if it is required. Bespoke treatment and personalised care - an effective treatment plan for you will be discussed with a multi-disciplinary team. Tailored around you and your specific needs, there is a wide range of contemporary treatment options available to you.
