Intern Psychologist Program Lily Pad Psychology Lily Pad Psychology TM Jan 2015

Clinic Ethos The Lily Pad Psychology clinic is a warm and welcoming place for client reflection and healing. Nicole s doors are open to clients of all ages and challenges. Nicole assists a wide range of Psychological/Emotional and Relationship difficulties for individuals, families and even organisations. Nicole excels in quickly identifying presenting problems and providing effective assessment and treatment. She works from a strength s based focus, assisting clients to identify and build on their existing strengths to overcome their weaknesses. Nicole s clients advise they find her sessions empowering, insightful and motivating. Children enjoy coming to see Nicole as she is creative in adapting her strategies and interventions to appeal to children in crafts, play, role play and games.

What Intern s can expect from us Nicole currently has capacity to take on one Provisional Psychology Student to be directly mentored by her. Nicole, our Principal Psychologist, provides thorough education to her interns though a balance of hands on skill training and reference to empirical support and research. Nicole expects she can provide varied counseling opportunities in her practice to enable her intern to develop a wide set of skills and knowledge in clinical psychology. Nicole is always open to new an novel opportunities in which she plans for her intern to attend, such as presenting in schools and organisations, analysing a wide range of psychometrics, applying an eclectic mix of empirically supported clinical methodologies and techniques, running group therapy, family therapy, child, adolescent and adult therapy and perhaps even workplace interventions. Nicole will frequently assess the learning and capability of her intern s to ensure she effectively facilitates their learning needs as they arise. Nicole will regularly check that her interns are being challenged and developing in their skills, she will meet with them regularly to ask how they are finding the program and to assist them in planning their own development milestones and goals. Nicole is an experienced teacher/mentor and is a widely experienced and skilled clinician herself, she thoroughly enjoys teaching new Psychologists and appreciates their fresh approach to clinical work and empirical enquiry. Nicole s intern s advise they find her a wonderful and insightful mentor and enjoy her teaching style. Nicole s aims to continually develop her intern program to enrich her interns and improve her own techniques as a actively practicing and teaching Psychologist. Each intern s program is tailored to meet their specific needs and interests.

Counselling Outcomes Over the course of your Placement with Nicole, she expects you will: Critically evaluate the use of counselling skills and interventions Demonstrate assessment and intervention planning Apply counselling models to meet client needs Integrate ethical thinking and decision- making in counselling to uphold the rights and autonomy of clients Facilitate effective use of theoretical knowledge and counselling skills to practice Evaluate counselling competence in preparation for future clinical practice Integrate feedback from supervisor

Process/Meetings 1. Pre- placement Nicole will meet with the student to discuss if and how a mutually beneficial placement can be organised. We will establish placement dates and times and complete and sign the Placement Confirmation, Insurance and Code of Conduct forms completed. 2. Beginning of placement Nicole will oversee student's orientation. Determine frequency and means by which supervision and assessment of the student s performance are to take place. Discuss and fine tune the student s drafted Student Learning and Supervision Contract within the first 20 hours or two weeks of placement (whichever comes first). Facilitate, monitor and evaluate their learning. 3. Mid- placement review The mid- placement review provides the forum in which Nicole can ensure that the placement is of mutual benefit to the student and Lily Pad Psychology. This is also an opportunity for Nicole to see how the placement relates to the student s Learning Goals. Nicole to discuss how the student is developing and their progress towards achieving their Student Learning and Supervision Contract goals with other supervisor/s. Discuss any issues that may have arisen for both supervisor and student. 4. Completion of placement Nicole will provide constructive feedback to the student, complete the Clinical Supervision Log and Supervisor Placement Report, including the number of completed hours and performance grading (satisfactory/unsatisfactory) The student is responsible for submitting all paperwork.

What we expect from Intern s Interns must be responsible for managing their Board requirements; including submission of required forms and assessments across their Provisional Practice. Interns must adhere to the APS ethical guidelines including confidentiality requirements. Please visit the APS website for a current Ethical Guidelines document. Nicole requires interns to be very familiar with this document. Interns are expected to alert their supervisor if ever they feel they are unsure of their responsibilities, feel they may be practicing outside of their capability or ever require clarification on skills or techniques. Interns will need to openly communicate with their supervisor/s about their learning needs/concerns in order to develop and maintain an effective learning relationship and get the most out of their program. We expect our interns to grow a lot over the course of the program, that means facing what you don t know with a keeness to develop. Don t be afraid to make mistakes, that s how we learn.

Application Criteria We are always looking for bright, warm hearted and gifted interns who have a passion for helping others. Interns must be Provisionally Registered Psychologists with AHPRA. To APPLY Please submit an email to Nicole with; Your Provisional Registration certification (from AHPRA) or pending application receipt to AHPRA. Your University Transcript with Distinction average. A personal statement advising why you would like to apply. Two workplace references with your application. Nicole can be reached on nicolepsychology@gmail.com.
