Founded by a survivor who proves that there is hope, early diagnosis is achievable and survival is possible, our focus is on ensuring that patients are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at a stage that gives them the best chance of survival. Quite simply, we know that pancreatic cancer can be detected early, and as We are a small charity with a huge voice! long as we are here and continue to be supported, we will do all we can do to make sure this happens more and more. With your help, we fund research into improving early diagnosis, create award-winning awareness campaigns, provide educational courses for primary care professionals and provide information for patients and clinicians. Hearing daily of more people diagnosed late and dying from pancreatic cancer is a powerful reminder of why our work and your support is so vital. 2 I FundraisingTOOLKIT www.pancreaticcanceraction.org I 3

You will need to consider time to plan, to train or to organise your event. How much do you want to raise? If you have set yourself a big target it is a good idea to break it down into smaller activities. Where and when will your event take place? Do you need to secure a venue, sign up to a challenge or select a specific date? Who do you want to involve? Are you going it alone or are you getting a team together? Will you need to recruit volunteers for the event? Top tips on becoming a successful fundraiser Understand exactly what you will be doing and what Pancreatic Cancer Action does. Your supporters will definitely ask you! We have lots of resources we can send you that will explain the work we do. Use your networks. Your networks include all the different groups of people you may know, including your online social networks. Research local and national organisations that would be interested in what you are doing. This could include Rotary Clubs and local youth groups. Tell everyone about your event. The key to successful event is promotion, so make sure you put your event on Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites. Send posters and leaflets to give to your sponsors and to promote your events. Don t be afraid to ask! You will not reach your target if you don t ask people to sponsor you. 4 I FundraisingTOOLKIT www.pancreaticcanceraction.org I 5
