Assisted conception One in six Australian couples of reproductive age experience difficulties conceiving a child. Assisted conception, nowadays, provides the highest possible chance of starting a family, as the success of assisted reproductive technology has overtaken natural conception. IVFAustralia is very proud of the increasing number of patients for whom we are achieving success with conception, and a baby. IVFAustralia s approach is to provide the least invasive, most effective treatment option for patients to maximise their chance of conception. Accessing specialist fertility treatment Never before have Australians had such good access to highly specialised fertility treatment, thanks to the support of the Federal Government and the Australian Community. The majority of fertility treatment costs will be covered by Medicare, and if you have private health insurance your costs may be further reduced. The Medicare Safety Net provides an additional rebate for people with large medical expenses. Once you reach the Medicare Safety Net threshold in a calendar year, Medicare will pay an additional rebate on select items. IVF treatment costs There are three main types of cost for your fertility treatment. These are: An initial consultation with an experienced Fertility Specialist, to review you (and your partners) medical history and undertake any investigations/tests you may require so that a personalised treatment can be recommended Fertility treatment, typically IVF or ICSI (which includes day surgery) Depending on your individual needs; advanced scientific techniques Your initial consultation At your first appointment with one of our Fertility Specialists, your doctor will review your medical history, assess your general health, and arrange initial tests and investigations for you and your partner. Please bring a doctor s referral from a GP (valid for 12 months) or specialist gynaecologist or obstetrician (valid for three months). Request that the referral includes both partners names, as this will ensure you are eligible for all Medicare rebates. Once the results of any tests undertaken are available, there will be a follow up consultation at which your Fertility Specialist will recommend the best treatment approach to help you achieve pregnancy. Your initial consultation will cost around $200, with a Medicare rebate of approximately $70. If you have already reached the Medicare Safety Net Threshold, your rebate will be even higher.
Fertility treatment Once you commence treatment, all Fertility Specialist consultations, management of your cycle by your Fertility Specialist, all blood tests, pathology, ultrasounds, Medicare approved medications, and counselling during and post cycle, are included in your fees. The table below provides an estimate of out-of-pocket costs for fertility treatment with IVFAustralia. Please check with your insurer. Your Doctor may prescribe additional medications that are not covered by Medicare in the IVF cycle (allow approximately $280). The majority of your day hospital fees are covered by private health insurance. This typically includes egg collection and embryo transfer for IVF and ICSI treatments, undertaken in a day hospital. If you don t have private health insurance, you can expect to pay up to $2,000 for day hospital care, and an anaesthetist. There is no Medicare rebate for day hospital procedures, though some rebates exist for anaesthetist services. Following IVF and ICSI cycles, excess embryos can be frozen using the latest vitrification freezing methods. This gives you the option of a Frozen Embryo Transfer at a later date. Unlike many other fertility clinics; a fee of just $100 is charged for this service. Depending on your individual financial circumstances, you may be eligible to access your superannuation fund to cover the costs of your treatment. Our administration team can provide you with more information on this Government initiative.

Success Rates Understanding success rates In understanding IVF success rates, it is important for you to consider many factors; including your age, the cause of your infertility and the approach taken to your treatment. IVFAustralia attributes our success to the experience of our doctors, individual treatment programs for patients, highly skilled embryologists and leadership in research and development. Success rate statistics Over 50% of IVFAustralia patients will have a baby after one IVF cycle 90% of IVFAustralia patients will be pregnant within one and three IVF cycles IVFAustralia is part of the leading group of fertility clinics in Australia, responsible for the creation of over 60,000 Australians during the past 30 years. This is half of the country s IVF-conceived population Blastocyst transfer IVFAustralia routinely recommends blastocyst culture of all embryos, which means we allow embryos to grow for five days in vitro before transferring them back to the woman s uterus. This is because our clinical evidence, and that of international fertility clinics, shows the chance of pregnancy following fresh blastocyst embryo transfer is significantly higher than for cleavage stage transfer, which is when the embryo is grown in vitro for two or three days. The following graph shows the fresh embryo transfer clinical pregnancy outcomes achieved at IVFAustralia s for patients during 2013 (pregnancy rates are for the previous year as the 2013 conceived babies have not all been born yet). It does not include any additional frozen embryo transfers that may have eventuated from these first fresh cycles.
