AN UPDATE ON OUR FIJIAN VISITORS Update on Noa & Emele to date! Stage 1 - first visit complete: Wow, 2 days off 3 months has Noa & Emele been here in Canberra for Stage 1 of a 2 to 3 stage operation. It has been a wonderful experience for Pam & I, all be it having a permanent shadow can wear one down :). For those of us that have been fortunate enough to spend time with them they are wonderful people, and a great little kid, all be it hyperactive. He has loved the bike the club bought him, and is very excited to come back to us so he can get it and take it back to the village (oh yes, that s right and have the second operation). With all this hot weather, once given the all clear on the 17 th, he lived in our pool and the 2 next door neighbour pools. Will be a slightly different story in the middle of winter in July (ladies keep any warm cloths you don t need). Last Saturday the 21 st, I drove 2 very excited Fijians up to Sydney airport for their trip back to Nada, where they will spend a couple of days with 3 of Emele s 6 children before heading down to Suva to see Kelsey (the wonderful lady from Suva Rotary who had been incredibly helpful in getting them here), before catching the boat back to the island and home. Stage 2 return trip in July: We have already started preparing for their return in July. After the immense trouble we had with visa s getting them here, the wheels are in motion with ROMAC assistance on getting the visa s out of the way and ready for their July return. Closer to their return I will let you all know where and when. Thanks again, Chilly. 2

AND THERE IS MORE ABOUT NOA! They re back home! I have been advised that Noa & Emele upon landing in Nada Fiji, that they had a wonderful few days in Latoka with Emeles two sisters who travelled from the village to meet them at the airport. They also saw Emeles two daughters and extended family, and then they travelled across the island to Suva and caught up with Kelsey (the wonderful Rotarian who helped from the Fiji end). They are now happy at home telling all their stories, Noa is happy to be back at school. We now need to plan their return in July and coordinate visa s (wish us luck after the first trial and tribulations) and CBR hospital, I will keep you informed on our progress YIRS Rob (Chilly) Chilman SUPPORT THE WODEN CLUB! Are you looking for a fun night out on Friday 24th February? Of cause you are! Well here is your chance, the Rotary Club of Woden are presenting a Charity Virtual Race Night. Please see the attached flyer, it should be lots of fun, dress up, take a punt, bid on an auction item, and most of all have a great night out with friends. Hope you can make it and support another Rotary Club's project. Feel free to pass this information on to anyone you think might like to attend. 3

28 th January 2016 Here is the market report for 14/01/17 - Thanks to Peter J. Marketeers were Sue Jarvis, David Stevens and Peter Jarvis We arrived at 6:45am with the market hustle and bustle in full throng. There were lots of early shoppers avoiding the heat. No big dramas on the day. A purse with a fair amount of cash inside was handed in and claimed quickly. A lovely young lady gave Sue a big hug. No such luck for yours truly. We had a smart watch handed in by a lady who said she left a note on the windscreen of the car it was found. To tell the time you have to enter a PIN number. Weird!! It was claimed by a young man called Guy who was very grateful. Stall numbers were down as also were the customer numbers. My first shift on the gate I was advised that a pergola was available to keep the sun off the gatekeepers. David and I struggled to erect this infernal contraption. We were rescued by a young bloke who gave us a hand. Inventory: Water - 24 bottles roughly. Need another slab (The ice containers at the Servo were in a new location. The attendant couldn t find the key. Shemozzle!!! ) N.B.: Tally sheets are in a pocket in the back of the display book for the market stalls. Next markets will need water and ice, but other stocks are ok. Paul Robey, Chilly & David S. Tables $60 Bags $80 Water $34 Books $0 Cooler Bags $5 Donations $11 Total $190.00 NOTE: Last Saturday market is on 17 th Dec with an afternoon market on 22 December. Bill Lilley, John Snedden and Peter Jarvis from Queanbeyan West took on the joint roll of mentoring the development of the new club. (Peter Jarvis went on to become our Charter President). Advertising for potential members began in March 1998. After a successful campaign, the Club was chartered on 18 November 1998 with 26 members. Initial meetings were held at the Jerrabomberra General Store the venue was very good until we grew in numbers. We then moved to the Jerrabomberra Community Centre for a few years, and we now meet at the Jerrabomberra Public School Staff Room, on Thursdays (6.15 for 6.30 pm). (Charter) President Peter Jarvis ran competitions to select a name for our Club Newsletter and a design for the Club banner. There were some good and some not so good suggestions. Pam Spencer suggested the winning bulletin name Jerraganda and David Stevens was the successful designer of our club banner. The design incorporated a goose and the windmill associated with the original entrance to the estate adjacent to the Community Centre. Both the Jerraganda and the Club logo have evolved to keep pace with modern times. We have always been, and continue to be, a vibrant and fun loving club providing valued community service, both locally and internationally. Our motto is, Doing Good and Having Fun 8
