KANKAKEE VALLEY SCHOOL CORPORATION REGULAR BOARD MINUTES Board President, Mr. John Jungels, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with all members present except Mr. Ron Klauer (he arrived at 7:44 p.m and was present for the Work Session only). Approved the minutes of the regular meeting of February 24, 2014 and the special meeting of February 27, 2014. Approved the Corporation Claims in the amount $999,990.92. Motion: Mrs. Lana Olson Second: Dr. Edward Habrowski Vote: 6-0 Approved the Cafeteria Claims in the amount of $59,717.30. Motion: Mr. Jeff DeYoung Second: Mr. Matthew Rhoades Vote: 6-0 Superintendent Sharon Sanelli announced that 16 Kankakee Valley School Corporation (KVSC) elementary students, accompanied by their respective music teachers, traveled to Hebron High School on March 1 to participate in Circle the State with Song an annual event involving students throughout the state coming together to rehearse and perform choir numbers. Inaugural competitions kept Kankakee Valley High School (KVHS) students busy this past weekend: Show Choir earned a gold rating on their maiden attempt while another small group participated in the FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) state conference and ProStart (a nationwide two year high school program that brings together classroom and industry to develop future restaurant and food service leaders) competition. Challenging 20 other students/teams, KV captured silver medals for an Early Childhood Learning Pac and another for the Prostart contest by demonstrating various knife skills and preparing a three-course meal. Jazz band also competed last weekend and came home with a gold rating. Congratulations are extended to our Boys Varsity Basketball team for a hard fought sectional game against Andrean, along with thanks going to the KVHS administration for the effort put forth hosting the sectional and regional games. Motion: Mr. Matthew Rhoades Second: Mrs. Barbara Peregrine Vote: 6-0 Approved to accept the retirement of Deborah Vanderplough, Wheatfield Elementary School (WES) Second Grade teacher, effective at the end of the 2013-2014 school year. Approved to accept the retirement of Mary Martin, DeMotte Elementary School (DES) Kindergarten teacher, effective at the end of the 2013-2014 school year. Approved moving Jamie DeVos from a part-time to a full-time Special Education Instructional aide at KVIS, filling a vacancy created to better serve the needs of the students in this classroom. Approved Theresa Pearl as a 29-hour Special Education Instructional aide at KVIS, filling a vacancy created by moving Jamie DeVos to a full-time position. Motion: Mr. Jeff DeYoung Second: Dr. Edward Habrowski Vote: 6-0 Approved Kim Reno as a 29-hour Special Education Instructional aide at KVIS, filling a vacancy created to better serve the needs of the students in this classroom. Approved to accept the resignation of Richelle Winstead, Instructional aide at DES, effective March 14, 2014. Approved a maternity leave request for Julie Walstra, KVIS Fifth Grade teacher, beginning May 16, 2014 (approximately) and continuing through the end of the 2013-2014 school year. Approved the renewal of our support/maintenance agreement with the American Education Corporation for the A+ software in the amount of $5000.00 for one (1) year. Approved permission for Linda Howard, Director of Food Services, to advertise for bids for lunch program supplies for the 2014-2015 school year. Approved a one (1) year extension of employment for the 2015-2016 school year for the following administrators: Aaron Case, Doug Greenlee, Robert Heid, Kim Lobsiger, Michelle Meadows, William Ridley, John Shank, Guy Skrobul, Cathy Vollmer, and James Wickstrom. Motion: Mrs. Lana Olson Second: Dr. Edward Habrowski Vote: 6-0 Approved the employment of Pam Croll as Assistant Principal/RtI Coordinator for DES, effective April 1, 2014 at the salary of $63,035.81, with an initial two year/205 days/year contract to begin with the 2014-15 school year. Approved the employment of Dana Bunning as Assistant Principal/RtI Coordinator for KVIS, effective April 1, 2014 at the salary of $60,397.23, with an initial two year/205 days/year contract to begin with the 2014-15 school year.
