By Martha Manske VP- Programs Please join us September 28 th at 6 pm as we kick off the new AAUW season with a salad/dessert supper hosted by your board members. I can t wait to hear about everyone s summer adventures. Joining us will be several members of AAUW@MHCC who will share their experiences at the NCCWSL conference at the University of Maryland this summer. There will be a Power Point presentation by one of the members that should give us a real feel for the conference. Sending a student to NCCWSL each year is such a rewarding branch goal. The enthusiasm for the program at AAUW@MHCC was so great that they successfully received two AAUW state-sponsored scholarships also. With some help from Mt. Hood Community College, a total of seven women were able to attend. We really have a lot to be proud of with this endeavor. At the September meeting I will be handing out a list of possible programs for you to review. We have such a diverse group that finding things that interest the majority is sometimes a challenge. If you have a special request or would like to hear about a special subject, please contact me. I m looking forward to seeing all the familiar smiling faces and some wonderful new members at the meeting.

Chair Marilyn Zook Compliance Review Committee Kay Struckman & Joan Albertson Reviewer to Board Marilyn Zook It has been a busy summer. Loraine Chapman has had people manning our table at the Gresham Farmers Market one Saturday a month. We will be there on two Saturdays in September. Three new members signed up and many more have received information about AAUW in Gresham. Several people have said that they didn t know there was a branch in Gresham. Prospective members have been invited to our ice cream social and picnic this summer. I think this is a great success. Thank you, Loraine and the members who volunteered to help her. Thank you to Bonnie Jepsen for planning the ice cream social and picnic this summer. It was fun to get together with members we haven t seen for a while. It is good to schedule some social events during the summer to keep in touch and for new members to get to know some of us. Peggy Taylor is getting our branch s Facebook up again. She has uploaded some pictures from the Installation dinner, ice cream social and picnic. Check it out! Deb Frick will continue to manage the branch s website. We are up and coming in the technology area. I hope more members will be attending our branch functions this coming year. Let s have a great start! 2015 Meeting Schedule September 28 - Branch Meeting November 14 Silent Auction, Old Spaghetti Factory in Clackamas December 13 Yuletide Tea at Arlene s house January 16 Luncheon at M&M restaurant, Gresham May 16 Installation, MHCC in the Town and Gown Rm June, July, and August - Summer Socials - TBA

KeyNotes Newsletter September 2015 AAUW Gresham Area Branch Page 3 Mentors Needed! by Loraine Chapman, Membership Chairman Let s welcome new members to our Gresham Area Branch of AAUW with gusto! To date, we have three new members from our summer public tabling events and are likely to see this number grow by our first meeting on Monday, September 28. Their introduction to our branch would likely be enhanced if each had a renewing member to act as a mentor during the first few meetings. Suggested responsibilities of a mentor include the following: 1. Email or phone new member prior to meeting, providing details about the meeting date/time and directions to Gresham Event Center. 2. Meet new member at the front door on meeting date. 3. Provide a name tag to new member. 4. Introduce new member to others attending the meeting. Volunteers are needed to fill mentor positions. This is your opportunity to contribute to our branch in a meaningful way yet does not require much of your time. Remember that these new members may not be referrals from those who already belong to our branch and therefore are not likely acquainted with other members. Let s give them a warm Gresham welcome! VOLUNTEER A FEW MINUTES OF YOUR TIME TO MAKE OUR NEW MEMBERS FEEL COMFORTABLE! Email or call Loraine Chapman at lorainechapman_5@msn.com or 503-830-6187 prior to our Monday, September 28, meeting if you are willing to act as a mentor for one new member. We need your help! AAUW Funds By Katie Goodwin, Gresham Area Branch Funds Chair The AAUW Fund is the name used to identify the aggregated unrestricted funds that supply full or partial funding for every AAUW program except for our Fellowships and Grants. Many of AAUW s most popular programs, such as Elect Her, $tart $mart and the Two-Minute Activist, are solely supported by the AAUW Fund. Several programs such as the Legal Advocacy Fund and our Research, receive partial support from both the unrestricted AAUW Fund and partial support from restricted gifts. By contrast, our Fellowships and Grants are supported entirely by interest from the AAUW Endowment which consists of restricted funds. Gifts to The AAUW Fund may be sent to Katie Goodwin, 3131 SE 180 th Avenue, Portland, OR 97236, to AAUW, online at http://www.aauw.org/contribute or call Connect at 800-316-2289. Please consider a gift as 2015 ends. Gresham Area Branch AAUW Fund Chair, Katie Goodwin
