Welcome to the 2017 Essentials of Primary Care Pain Management Conference We are excited to welcome you to the 2017 Essentials of Primary Care Pain Management Conference at UC Davis. We hope this two-day event will provide you with the opportunity to learn about recent scientific data with current clinical practice regarding pain management, addiction and responsible opioid prescribing. We are thrilled that speakers from various fields of pain management can join us to discuss many topics, including responsible opioid prescribing, pain and mental health, management of co-morbid conditions, and non-medication based treatment modalities for pain management. Pain is the most common reason that a patient seeks health care and represents an incalculable resource burden on individuals, society and the health care system. Approximately 100 million Americans one in three of us report suffering from chronic pain, at a cost of $600 billion per year. Pain is ubiquitous and rising, both in the United States and globally, but treatment is often inadequate and even unsafe. We hope to better equip health care providers with the knowledge to safely and effectively treat and manage pain. The Essentials of Primary Care Pain Management conference will help to address a core problem of pain management: inadequate training provided to the primary care providers. We look forward to your feedback on the conference and encourage you to complete the evaluation included in your program. If you would like to be kept informed of future initiatives of the Center for Advancing Pain Relief, please sign up for the listserv on our website: advancingpainrelief.ucdavis.edu.
