About YoungMinds YoungMinds champions the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people across the UK. Driven by their experience we create positive change so that children and young people can cope with life s adversities, find help when they need it and succeed in life. Had I not been in touch with YoungMinds, I d still be waiting. Early intervention has really helped my daughter to manage. She s not petrified every day, she s got a care plan in place. We ve begun to get her life back on track. Parents Helpline caller Why does our work matter? 1 in 10 children and young people aged 5-16, an average of 3 children in every classroom, suffer from a diagnosable mental health problem such as depression, anxiety or an eating disorder. 10% of young people deliberately harm themselves regularly. 3 4 of long-lasting mental ill health starts before the age of 18. Early intervention is vital to improve young people s health and to prevent children from suffering from further disadvantages, including bullying, isolation, and problems at school. With good mental health, children and young people do better in every way. 3

We support families No one should suffer alone. YoungMinds provides a lifeline to thousands of families, advising and supporting them to understand their child s behaviour and secure the right help. We empower children and young people Children and young people with mental health problems are at the heart of everything we do. From our free online resources to our innovative youth engagement programmes, we transform the lives of children and young people. We campaign for change We break the silence surrounding mental health by speaking out to change attitudes and policies. Driven by the experiences of young people, we campaign to build a society where mental health has no attached stigma and where those suffering get fast, effective support. We help professionals Many professionals tell us they don t have the knowledge and training to understand how young people are feeling, spot problems or help if needed. Our training and consultancy work helps schools and professionals make a real difference to young people s mental health. The best thing about being a YoungMinds Activist is that I have become a better person and become more confident within myself, and been given the opportunity to create change and express my thoughts and feelings. I honestly can t thank YoungMinds enough for what they have done for me, and for what they have also taught me about the person that I want to be. Charlotte, 21, a YoungMinds Activist 4 30 will provide training for a Young Activist to have the skills and confidence to speak out about mental health issues 15 supports a Parents Helpline Volunteer for one day to provide information and support to worried parents

Fundraising Ideas However you choose to support us, we ll be with you every step of the way with top tips and useful resources. Here are a few tried and tested ideas to get the ball rolling! Quick & simple ideas Walk to Work and donate the money you will have saved on transport. Make your colleague s tea and coffee for them all week but for a price! Put collection tins and information leaflets by reception or in communal areas and encourage your colleagues to find out more about YoungMinds and donate their loose change, whether it be pennies or pounds. Bring in a packed lunch and forgo that coffee and donate the amount you save just watch the pennies rise. Give up an hours wage and donate the amount to YoungMinds. 6

At work Bake Sale Let the Mary Berry in you loose, and get baking. Sell your sweet treats to your family, friends and work colleagues. Or if you are feeling competitive, then why not hold your very own Bake Off? Office Olympics Organise a mini Office Olympics challenge, and encourage some friendly competition! Give each team a different country, and play games like Bin Basket Ball or Speed Typing. Swap & Shop Ask colleagues to dust the cobwebs off any unwanted clothes, shoes or accessories and bring them to a clothes swapping party. Charge 1 for each swap and everyone s a winner! #HelloYellow Join us on World Mental Health Day (October 10th) for our national fundraising campaign by wearing something yellow a tie, jumper, hat or even just your socks! Donate, support our work and say #HelloYellow to get people talking about mental health. After work Cheese and Wine Evening What better way to finish the week than with a slice of cheese and small glass of wine? Charge 5 per person and donate the proceeds. The BIG quiz Organise a Quiz Night for you and your family, friends and colleagues, charge teams to enter and put their knowledge to the test. Who s got talent? Hold a talent show to find out your colleagues secret talents - singing, dancing, juggling, individuals or teams, anything goes! Charge colleagues to participate, watch or even judge and donate the proceeds with a trophy for the winner. 7

Go on, challenge yourself! Whether you want to take on a marathon, or move at a gentler pace with a 5K run, join our team! We can help and support you to find the right event for you. Plan a sponsored cycle with your friends, family and colleagues and collect as much sponsorship as possible. Take on a challenge, such as a Tough Mudder or a trek - ask your friends to take part with you, raise funds, have fun and get muddy! Seasonal ideas Celebrate Pancake Day with unlimited pancakes in return for donations. Get creative with a Pumpkin Carving Competition with prizes for the best of the show. Organise a Halloween Fancy Dress Day and ask for 2 donations. Organise a Guy Fawkes Firework Night and charge people an entry fee. Offer a Gift Wrapping Service to colleagues during the holidays and charge a small fee - it s a wrap! 8
