MUSCULOSKELETAL SONOGRPAHY APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS Below are the general admissions requirements for all health programs followed by the program specific requirements. Please keep in mind that admission to all health programs is a two-phase process: (1) Application to SPCC and (2) Application to Musculoskeletal Sonography. PHASE I: Complete your SPCC Admissions File Step 1. Complete the SPCC College Application at www.spcc.edu Application to SPCC must be within two semesters of the deadline for Musculoskeletal Sonography or you must have been continuously enrolled at SPCC for the last year. (Continuous enrollment means that you have been enrolled at SPCC and have not stopped out for any reason. On your application to SPCC, you can apply only to one health program (Musculoskeletal Sonography). Step 2. Submit official transcripts from all colleges A Transcript Evaluation Request Form must be completed and sent to the Registrar for evaluation of prior course credit every time a transcript is submitted. All foreign transcripts (secondary and post-secondary) must be evaluated by an SPCC recognized evaluation company at the student s expense. For specific details, see International Transcript Credit information in the College catalog. Step 3. Prepare for and take the College Placement Test (CPT) You have one opportunity to take the CPT (English and Math). The initial test is free. Students are strongly encouraged to thoroughly review CPT study material prior to taking the CPT. All placement test scores are good for five (5) years. All students are required to take the CPT unless exempt by a waiver. CPT Waivers can be found on the SPCC website. PHASE II: Musculoskeletal Sonography Program Requirements Step 1. Have valid College Placement Test (CPT) scores: DRE score of 151 or higher AND Mastery in DMA 010 through 080 (score of 7 or higher in each DMA) OR Completion within five (5) years of program application deadline of: DRE 096 through DRE 098 AND DMA 010 through 080 Step 2. Proof of current certification in at least one Sonography specialty from the following: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) o RT (S) or RT (V) The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) o RDMS o RVT OR Proof of graduation from an accredited program in Sonography, Vascular or a sonography credential. You must provide letter of reference on letterhead from your employer, program director, or from a 2
credentialed sonographer for these options. OR Proof of current licensure as one of the following: Doctor of Medicine (MD) Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) Nurse Practitioner (NP) Physician Assistant (PA) Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Physical Therapist (PT) Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) outside of North America You must complete scanning module, including lab, attached to MSK 110 by the end of week one. (Required for accepted doctor students, optional all others). 3. Current Healthcare Provider or Basic Life Support (BLS) or First Aid AED CPR certification from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross. NOTE: Online CPR courses are not accepted. Disability Services SPCC provides an ongoing program of services that encourage students with disabilities to integrate themselves into all aspects of college life. The Disability Services provider is available to assist with registration, counseling, academic advisement and arrangements for appropriate accommodation. Reasonable accommodations are established on an individual basis. Students must provide documentation of a disability from a physician or other licensed professional in order to establish eligibility for services. Disclosure Students will be required to travel to the Old Charlotte Highway campus in Monroe for two separate skills assessments. The program is offered primarily online. MUSCULOSKELETAL SONOGRAPHY PROGRAM FAQ SECTION Packet Submission Deadline is November 17, 2017 Where do I go for guidance related to admission to Musculoskeletal Sonography? Attend an advising session after completing your admission to SPCC (Phase 1) to create a Health Application Plan or visit Admissions for questions about the application process. How do I apply for admission to the Musculoskeletal Sonography program? Complete Step 1 and 2 of the admission requirements (page 2-3). Collect required documents listed on the Sonography application pages (page7-9). Put the Sonography application pages and all proof documents into a manila envelope. Print your full name, SPCC ID, and Musculoskeletal Sonography clearly in the upper right corner and submit packet to the Admissions Office by close of business November 17, 2017. When are students admitted into the Musculoskeletal Sonography program? Students are admitted spring semester each year. There is no waitlist and selection is based on first-come, first-filled. All health programs have limited seats, competitive admissions. If all seats are not filled, the application period may be extended. Any extension will be posted on www.spcc.edu. How will I know if I m accepted into the Musculoskeletal Sonography program? Within a month of the program application deadline, you will receive notification of your provisional acceptance by mail. ONCE YOU RECEIVE THIS LETTER, you must: Complete any steps listed in your provisional acceptance letter by the deadline. Applicants accepted for admission into the Musculoskeletal Sonography program may be required to complete a criminal background check and a drug screen. Cost is the responsibility of the student. Based on the results of the criminal background check and the drug screen, hospitals or clinical facilities where you will participate in onsite training may deny you access to their facility, resulting in your inability to complete the clinical portion of the Musculoskeletal Sonography program. If you are unable to complete the clinical portion of your training, you will be unable to progress in the program; therefore, resulting in your removal from the program. 4
