13 THE CORRELATION BETWEEN ENGLISH TEST-TAKING STRATEGY AND STUDENTS TEST PERFORMANCE MUTHIA WINDARTI 1201050113 ABSTRACT This study was aimed at finding out the correlation between English testtaking stratregy and Students test performance. A questionnaire was distributed to the sixth semester students of English Education Department to know what is the dominant strategy used by the students and the correlation between those strategies and the students test performance in line with EPT result. The result showed that the dominant strategy used by the students was Affective strategies (M= 3,17) which could be categorized in high used range. There was correlation between English test-taking strategy and Students test performance, although the correlation was very low. The computation result in chi square table was between 5,991 and 9,488. According to the result of chi square analysis, it was revealed that most of the five main strategies have chi square test less than chi square table. However, one of the strategies have significantly posstive on the chi square test and chi square table. The computation of affective strategies was higher (chi square test= 9,475) than (chi square table=5,991). Thus, affective strategy was one of the strategy that influenced the students most while doing a test especially in English Proficiency Test.
