Program Fractures of the Wrist: Open Reduction and Internal Fixation February 18 20, 2016 Larissa / Greece Medical School of the University of Thessaly Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Musculoskeletal Trauma Department of Anatomy Chairmen Prof. Dr. Konstantinos N. Malizos Prof. Dr. Hermann Krimmer

Foreword Dear Friends and Colleagues Fractures and injuries of the complex wrist joint are common injuries which may render the hand nonfunctional. Stable fixation of wrist fractures is very important as it allows early and safe mobilization of tendon and joints, aiming at full and painless range of motion and unrestricted hand function. A variety of surgical approaches and techniques have been described for the most efficient performance of the indicated procedure. This Seminar will focus on the basic function of the wrist joint, the techniques to fix the fracture, the techniques to address malunions and nonunions and the salvage procedures. The workshop on fresh cadavers will certainly improve understanding and further develop your skills on these surgical techniques. Highly experienced faculty will be available during the entire Seminar to answer all questions and concerns. Larissa, where the Seminar is held, hosted Hippokrates, the father of modern Medicine during the last years of his life. He has taught students, treated patients, died and was buried here. His grave is one of the many monuments and sites in the city that visitors can enjoy. The University of Thessaly in Larissa is an acknowledged Center of Excellence for Hand Surgery and Microsurgery granted by FESSH the privilege to train Hand Fellows in Surgery. We are proud to host this in Larissa. We are looking forward to welcoming you. Prof. Dr. Prof. Dr. Konstantinos N. Malizos Hermann Krimmer 2

Notes Meeting Venue The Faculty of Medicine was founded in 1985, welcoming the first students in the academic year 1990-1991. Since its foundation it has earned a distinguished reputation, nationally and internationally, for its quality of teaching and research. It has been the first faculty established since the opening of the School of Health Sciences at the University of Thessalia, it has been autonomous since 1995 and operating in the city of Larissa. Approximately 100 students are enrolled in the undergraduate programme of the School per year, with a total number of students of 700. The premises of the Faculty of Medicine include laboratories for pre-clinical study, teaching rooms, auditoria, and administrative services quarters, all of which are situated in the new building of the Faculty of Medicine in Biopolis, with the University Hospital of Larissa close by, in the refurbished former Katsigra Clinic at Tachydromiou Square. The clinic units are located at the University Hospital of Larissa, with 643 beds 350 recently developed. The application of modern technology and the recently constructed library, which holds extensive collections of current and historical materials on Medicine, add to the already developed educational activities of the Faculty of Medicine new research and diagnostic potentials. 12
