In September 2004, the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), supported by the President s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)/Centers for Disease Control (CDC), launched Family AIDS Care and Education Services (FACES) in Nairobi. By March 2005, FACES expanded to two sites, with a second site in Kisumu the Nyanza region of western Kenya.
