Report 2013 Executive summary The TF sport psychology is a new mission of the EFPA. The first meeting to set up the TF was organized last year in March 23, 2012 in Brussels, EFPA Head Office. Currently, The TF included a total of 15 members (13 active members and 2 corresponding members) from 14 countries (see the table below). The main missions are: (1) the collection of information on education, training and professional practice in sport psychology in Europe; (2) Suggestions regarding improvements in the education and training of sport psychologists; (3) the Suggestions regarding promising lobbying activities and/or funded projects with the European Commission; and (4) the participation to the EFPA congress with a symposium on the diversity of interventions and practices of the psychologist in the field of sport and exercise. Activities 1. Collection of information on education, training and professional practice in sport psychology in Europe A document will be gathered, in an official text, with information concerning the education, training, supervision and organisations for sport psychologists in the different countries affiliated to the TF sport psychology. 1.1. Activity: A template was proposed to the TF Members in order to facilitate the redaction and the compilation of the different texts. 1.2. Achievements: The convenor proposed a base for the planning of the document about the situation of sport psychology in Europe. Each member added some points and suggested some modifications related to the specificity of each country. 2
The TF agreed on the following points: There should be focus on the psychologists specialized in sport field (discuss on the mainstream psychology only if related to sport psychology). The specificities of the psychologists compared to the other practitioners in sport settings (mental coach) should be mentioned. The criteria of Europsy for the suggestions to improve the education and training of psychologist exercising in sport field should be followed. Thus, the main chapter will examine: Country structure Education Training Practise Organisations The common plan will be proposed to each member, in order to have common frameworks that facilitate the collection and redaction of the document. 2. The Presentation of Europsy The EFPA site of Europsy has been screened, to present the site and how to register to Europsy. We insisted on the specificities of each countries and the interest to present them in the document of the situation of the sport psychology in Europe. However, the certification is attributed according the national organisations taking into account these specificities. 3
3. Proposition of the symposium of the task Force Sport Psychology After a roundtable ensuring us that we were enough to present a symposium, the TF decided to present a symposium about the situation of the diversities of the activities of a psychologist in the field of sport and exercise. The symposium entitled: The psychologist in the field of sport and exercise: examples of the diversity of interventions and practices is scheduled on the 11/07/2013 at 08:30-10:00, Session name: S19. 4. An inventory of possibilities for capacity building and information sharing, and for raising the profile of European sport psychology 4.1. Activity: The mini website of the sport psychology Task Force of EFPA was activated. A short CV of each member of the TF of sport Psychology, as well as the Action Plan of the Task Force were uploaded in the mini website. This will facilitate exchanges between members and potential collaborations. The mailing list of EFPA, which includes all members of the TF, was decided to be the official way of communication. 5. Suggestions regarding improvements in the education and training of sport psychologists 5.1. Activity: Based on the previous documents on education, training and professional practice in sport psychology in Europe, suggestions will be made in order to improve the formation of sport psychologist in Europe. 6. Suggestions regarding promising lobbying activities and/or funded projects with the European Commission. 4
The TF sport Psychology mini webpage and the mailing list will facilitate the potential proposals for projects with the European Commission. Meetings 1) The first meeting of the TF: March 23, 2012, Brussels. 2) The second meeting: October 23, 2012, Brussels. 3) The third meeting will take place in Stockholm during the congress in July 2013. Information & recommendations for GA & Member Associations The General Assembly is asked to take notice of the following: a) As for the other domains of practise, the diversity of education, training and diploma in Europe involved a lot of differences between psychologists exercising in sport field.
