Page 4 PREVIOUS PAGE NEXT PAGE Page 4 Horizon's 2003 Holiday Recruitment Kickoff Party!!! Some of us are already working hard on Horizon's camp for the summer of 2003! We will be getting together for the Holidays and kicking off the year with our annual Recruiting Drive on Saturday, January 4th at Hackney's on Lake starting at 5:00 p.m. Call your friends and come in a group so you can catch up with old friends from camp and start encouraging your friends to become volunteers at camp or throughout the year on a committee. We'll be in the party room with FREE Appetizers and door prizes given. Then you can thank our long time sponsor Hackney's for those great burgers at camp by having one of their famous hamburgers in the main restaurant. For your convenience make a reservation. (It gets very crowded.) Hackney's on Lake - 1514 East Lake Avenue in Glenview at 847-724-7171. Please let the Recruitment Committee know your planning to attend by calling the Horizon line (773) 477-5170 or email - tsmith@cboe.com. You could be the first to complete this year's camp application! Without volunteers it would be impossible to be the organization we are today! You can help the Recruitment Committee by doing a presentation at your school or giving us a contact and we'll do the presentation. Or, you can even help by just putting up or passing out posters. We have a great video this year! Please contact us! Hope to see you soon - the Recruitment Committee: Terry Smith, Shelia Bartnicke, Brenda Bokowski, Sim Bustos, Jean O'Connor, Donna Palkowski, Mark Gray, Megan O'Halloran, Jen Kowalewski, Tom Daly, Kristen Smith and Rachel Fox. http://associationofhorizon.org/newsletter/november%202002/page_4.htm (1 of 2)1/16/2008 6:31:45 AM

page 5 PREVIOUS PAGE NEXT PAGE November Issue, 2002 "What's on the HORIZON?" Page 5 It was all Treats and no Tricks for those attending the 11th Annual Horizon Halloween Benefit on Friday, October 18th. A full house of characters helped celebrate Horizon and raise funds for next year's summer camp. Two Elvis', Woody Woodpecker, a giant hot dog and a Mariachi band helped almost double the attendance of last year's benefit. While raising over $31,000, partygoers enjoyed the Steve Edwards Orchestra, the Kids Costume Parade, Raffle drawings, and a silent auction. The silent auction drew quite a crowd. Bidders were drawn to the great prizes including Lyric Opera tickets, a wine tasting party, a gourmet dinner for four prepared in your own home and a Chicago River basket including a rafting trip and a gift certificate to Rivers restaurant. The committee would like to thank everyone who attended the party and everyone who purchased raffle tickets! Also a special thank you goes out to all those who donated items and services to our raffle and silent auction. The winner of the $500 prize in the Grand Raffle was Mark Radcliff. Next year Diane Moncher will chair the benefit committee. Many possible changes are under consideration as the planning begins for 2003. If you are interested in being on the committee, please leave a message via the horizon hotline. New volunteers are needed and welcome. Please join the committee for a ghoulish good time! For more photos and highlights of the party visit the Horizon Website www. associationofhorizon.org.
