Goldstein Lecture Series Dr. Marvin Goldstein was a noted Atlanta orthodontist and philanthropist who for 20 years sponsored an internationally renowned dental clinician to lecture at the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. Dr. Goldstein believed the integrity of the dental profession could best be preserved by promoting clinical excellence and sharing information with colleagues. Following his death in 1997, Mrs. Rita (Goldstein) Wolfson arranged to perpetuate her husband s contributions to the dental profession through a gift to Augusta University that will continue to support the Annual Goldstein Lectureship. Augusta University and the dental profession continue to be served through the generosity of the Goldstein family.

COURSE Description This exciting lecture program will cover many of the current hot topics in esthetics, dental ceramics, adhesion, and digital dentistry. The presentation will feature treatment analysis, design, and planning for esthetic cases. Step-by-step techniques will be illustrated using the BFEP (Bonded Functional Esthetic Prototype) technique with a special high strength flowable composite resin. Criteria for selecting the most appropriate clinical situations as well as restorative requirements of the various ceramic systems, from conventional feldspathic glass systems and newer glass ceramic systems to solid sintered mono-phase Zirconia based systems (including both layered and newer more translucent monolithic higher CUBIC PHASE zirconia materials) will be discussed. Clinical and esthetic guidelines for using these ceramic systems will be covered focusing on specific clinical indications and contraindications for the use of the various ceramic systems as well as preparation designs for no-prep, minimal prep, and normal prep veneers, inlay/onlay and veneer/onlay combinations, and full coverage restorations. Additionally, this presentation will discuss the most effective use of computerized shade taking systems, and present data comparing the efficacy of computerized systems to visual shade taking. COURSE OBJECTIVES At the completion of this course, the participant should be able to: 1. Use photography to assist in treatment planning for esthetic cases 2. Utilize BFEP s to confirm desired esthetics and gain patient confidence 3. Select appropriate ceramic materials based on the clinical situation 4.
