Regional Vaccine Bank for Rabies in Asia EU-HPED Programme Advantages : availability of high quality vaccines, reduction of cost and delays, rapid delivery Vaccine suppliers selected through international call for tender, independent selection committee, contracts signed in March and May 2012 Vaccines complying with OIE quality standards Parenteral rabies vaccines for dogs and cats in 10ml vials (i.e. 10 doses) and 1 ml vials Eligible countries: ASEAN countries, SAARC countries, PR China, DPR Korea, Mongolia

Regional Vaccine Bank for Rabies in Asia The way forward End of the HPED funding: On-going contract with the vaccine supplier (up to 8 Million doses) EU and other potential donors, including the private sector and foundations, have been approached Possible purchase from the Regional Vaccine Bank by countries or donors through OIE Headquarters (Australia Aid funded STANDZ programme for the Philippines)

Regional Vaccine Bank for Rabies in Asia Monitoring and evaluation Need to evaluate the impact of the Rabies Regional Vaccine Bank Recipient countries have to report on the implementation and results of their respective vaccination campaigns Post-vaccination monitoring is considered under the One Health component of STANDZ programme

SUPPORT TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SEA DOG RABIES ELIMINATION STRATEGY An elimination strategy for dog rabies in South East Asia was drafted by the OIE SRR SEA in support to Vietnam, the ASEAN lead country on rabies prevention and control This was in response to the 2008 ASEAN Call for Action towards the Elimination of Rabies by 2020 in the ASEAN Member States and the Plus Three Countries (China, Japan and Korea).

SUPPORT TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SEA DOG RABIES ELIMINATION STRATEGY In October, 2013 under the facilitation of ASEAN Secretariat, AEGCD and ASWGL worked together to combine the regional strategies on rabies elimination from animal and human side. This joint inter sectoral work led to the ARES (The ASEAN Rabies Elimination Strategy)

OIE/JTF ONE HEALTH PROJECT (2013 2017) OIE Tokyo is going to launch an new JTF project for one health It is still under developing, but at least to cover animal influenza and rabies control It also will extend to the Strengthening VS in the region. New project to cover animal influenza and RABIES: Review of control measures in regional members Development of vaccination guidelines for field use
