The DCT1 will undertake a range of Public Dental Service duties, which may include dental inspection of schools, domiciliary care, care of patients who have additional needs or require special care, paediatrics and treatment of patients within GDS terms and conditions. Dentoalveolar surgery: This still constitutes the majority of the work carried out by the unit, which is mainly dealt with by Specialty Doctor(s) and DCTs under supervision. The consultants also undertake dentoalveolar surgery in the day surgery unit. Orthognathic surgery, facial trauma, facial cancer, oral medicine, TMJ disease and facial pain and implantology services are also provided. OMFS: 40 hours per week. 8:30am- 5pm weekdays with one on-call night per week, 5:00pm- 8:30am. Post 1 is PDS then OMFS/Ortho Post 2 is OMFS/Ortho then PDS Morag Muir The PDS post may include dental inspection of schools, domiciliary care, care of patients who have additional needs or require special care, and paediatric dentistry. There may also be opportunities to participate in GA lists and receive training in sedation. There will be a requirement to travel within the Board area in order to obtain a range of experience. In the post at DGRI there is supervised training both in theatre and outpatients, the latter in both OMFS and Orthodontics. General outpatient s see referrals from dental and medical practitioners, as well as the community and hospital services. There are also a number of combined s eg orthognathic surgery, head and neck cancer. There is good exposure to minor oral surgery, with support. OMFS/Ortho: 9.00am-5.00pm MFDS or MJDF exams. An Education Programme is provided for all dental core trainees by NES and the DCT1s are expected to participate in these formal training events. This programme normally comprises of study days as well as a national event for all DCTs. Core Training Adviser FV1/SGUH1 post 1 SGUH1/FV1 post 2 in NHS Forth Valley at Falkirk Community Hospital Dental Department and six months at the South General University Hospital, Glasgow in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Unit (OMFS). Post 1 is PDS then OMFS Post 2 is OMFS then PDS Vicky McGill The PDS post may include dental inspection of schools, domiciliary care, care of patients who have additional needs or require special care, and paediatric dentistry. There may also be opportunities to participate in GA lists and receive training in sedation. There will be a requirement to travel within the Board area in order to obtain a range of experience. The post at SGUH involves rotating over a 7 week period between the SGUH wards, theatre, Oral Surgery at Glasgow Dental Hospital and time off. Duties on the ward are undertaken either on a long day or a short day shift, and over-night on-call is residential. This rota attracts an on-call banding (2B) resulting in significant additional pay. Whilst on this rota leave has to be taken in a prescribed manner, individual needs for study and annual leave will be taken into consideration. These posts require a high level of team work and good communication skills. An excellent level of support is provided by Specialty Trainees and the Consultant group. All participants in the rota will attend an "on the Ward" course to help prepare for hospital work. A weekly MOS session is provided as well as opportunities to attend paediatric OMFS s and theatre sessions. Weekly teaching takes place. Travel between hospitals in the Glasgow area may be required for local lists and s. FV2/MONK post 1 MONK/FV2 post 2 There are two posts: each with six months based at Falkirk Community Hospital (FCH) in the NHS Forth Valley Public Dental Service (PDS) and six months at Monklands Hospital in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) and Orthodontic Units (there are also s at Wishaw General Hospital and Hairmyres Hospital). The post at Monklands includes the clerking of in-patients, day-case patients and emergency admissions, with arranging the relevant investigations as appropriate. DCT1 trainees also attend ward rounds and theatre lists regularly, assist in the outpatient s and are first oncall for emergency cases. One session per week is for study, and a further session is for minor oral surgery performed under local anaesthesia. Between them the Lanarkshire hospital departments undertake a full range of Oral and Maxillofacial and Orthodontic procedures. This includes dentoalveolar and orthognathic surgery. On-call cover can involve travelling between hospitals to see or review patients not able to travel to Monklands PDS: 8.30am-5pm on weekdays. The DCT1 will undertake a range of Public Dental Service duties, including provision of care to children and adults within terms and conditions of GDS. There may be opportunities to receive training in sedation and experience of special care dentistry. There will be a requirement to travel within the Health Board area in order to obtain a range of experience. The department of Oral Medicine receives referrals from a wide geographical area as it provides the main specialty referral centre for the West of Scotland. There is a rapid access facility for fast-tracking suspected oral malignancies. Core training postholders are allocated to two main consultants, although they may work with all members of staff during their post. There is a phlebotomy service supported by trained dental nurses. The core trainee in Oral Medicine is expected to screen laboratory results and help prepare cases for opathology meetings. Post 1 is PDS then OMFS Post 2 is OMFS then PDS Morag Muir This one of 4 posts in the Public Dental Service within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. The DCT1 will undertake a range of Public Dental Service duties, including provision of care to children and adults within terms and conditions of GDS. The orthodontic department will offer successful candidates a wide range of orthodontic experience including consultant supervised treatment/review sessions, new patient s and casual s. Time may be allocated to attend a variety of joint s in orthognathic surgery, paediatrics, cleft care and restorative dentistry to give as wide an exposure as possible to the range of orthodontic treatment carried out within the hospital. The Paediatric Department offers a wide range of al activities including: new patient s; treatment sessions; inhalation sedation; accident and emergency; trauma; hypodontia; and paediatric oral medicine. Some or all of this may be accessed by the successful candidate. al time is also spent at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children where DCTs are involved in the care of oncology, haematology and cardiac patients. They provide dental screening on wards, are involved in treatment and new patient assessment of medically complex children and play an active role in theatre sessions. LANH/SGUH3 post 1 SGUH3/LANH post 2 in NHS Lanarkshire at Hunter Health Centre/Central Health Centre and six months at the South General University Hospital, Glasgow in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Unit (OMFS). Post 1 is PDS then OMFS Post 2 is OMFS then PDS Core Training Adviser Morag Muir The PDS post may include dental inspection of schools, domiciliary care, care of patients who have additional needs or require special care, and paediatric dentistry. There may also be opportunities to participate in GA lists and receive training in sedation. There will be a requirement to travel within the Board area in order to obtain a range of experience. The post at SGUH involves rotating over a 7 week period between the SGUH wards, theatre, Oral Surgery at Glasgow Dental Hospital and time off. Duties on the ward are undertaken either on a long day or a short day shift, and over-night on-call is residential. This rota attracts an on-call banding (2B) resulting in significant additional pay. Whilst on this rota leave has to be taken in a prescribed manner, individual needs for study and annual leave will be taken into consideration. These posts require a high level of team work and good communication skills. An excellent level of support is provided by Specialty Trainees and the Consultant group. All participants in the rota will attend an "on the Ward" course to help prepare for hospital work. A weekly MOS session is provided as well as opportunities to attend paediatric OMFS s and theatre sessions. Weekly teaching takes place.
