This year s gathering will be co-located with Family Voices, one of AMCHP s key partners, with the theme of Working Together to Improve Maternal and Child Health at the heart of our 90 plus sessions and events. Family Voices aims to achieve family-centered care for all children and youth with special health care needs and/or disabilities through its national network, making the shared location of our conferences this year a special opportunity to focus on the vital roll of family in maternal and child health (MCH). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited as a provider of Continuing Nursing Education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Refunds are limited to conference fees paid. To qualify for a full refund minus a $75 administrative fee, written cancellation must be received by the conference registration manager (contact information above) no later than Jan. 7, 2011. Written cancellations received between Jan. 8 and Jan. 21, 2011, will receive a 50 percent refund minus a $75 administrative fee. No refunds will be given after Jan. 21, 2011. Substitutions may be requested at any time without charge, but must also be submitted in writing to the conference registration manager. Please provide the original attendees name and registration confi rmation number and the substitute attendees contact information (name, job title, organization, mailing address, phone number, and e-mail address). Many state and federal governmental agencies require a Tax ID number before processing travel orders. AMCHP s Tax ID # is 52-1529448. Conference Venue and Transportation Information AMCHP 2011 will be held at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. Making the Conference Affordable We understand that many AMCHP members and partners need to reduce costs. That s why our early bird registration rates haven t changed since 2009 and why we have included valuable AMCHP Annual Conference Training Institute skills-building sessions and events with your full conference registration. In addition, your full conference registration includes breakfast and lunch on Monday and Tuesday, receptions on Sunday and Tuesday, and free entrance to all conference events. Ryan Colburn Scholarship Fund AMCHP mourns the passing of member Susan Colburn s son Ryan Colburn. To honor Ryan, AMCHP is offering a partial scholarship to one youth leader to attend AMCHP 2011 as part of the AMCHP Family Scholars Program. The Family Scholars Program represents an opportunity to identify, encourage and train family leaders. The program strives to provide family scholars with the knowledge, tools and resources to enhance their development as family leaders to promote policies, programs and systems at the national, state and local levels that address important issues impacting the health and well-being of women, children and families, including children and youth with special health care needs. PROGRAM FEATURES & SPECIAL EVENTS Featured Plenary Speaker Andy Goodman AMCHP is pleased to announce Andy Goodman as a featured plenary speaker at the conference. Andy Goodman is a nationally recognized author, speaker and consultant in the fi eld of public interest communications. Along with Storytelling as Best Practice, he is author of Why Bad Ads Happen to Good Causes and Why Bad Presentations Happen to Good Causes. He also publishes a monthly journal, free-range thinking, to share best practices in the fi eld. Andy is best known for his speeches and workshops on storytelling, presenting, design and strategic communications. He currently serves on the faculty of the Communications Leadership Institute, which trains nonprofi t executive directors and grantmakers. In 2007, Al Gore selected Andy to train 1,000 volunteers who are currently helping the former vice president engage more Americans in the fi ght against global warming. In 2008, Andy co-founded The Goodman Center (thegoodmancenter. com) to offer online versions of his workshops, as well as additional communications and marketing classes to nonprofi ts, foundations, government agencies and educational institutions across the United States and worldwide. General Session: Examining Health Reform Passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) promises to usher in a new era for MCH. A shared AMCHP-Family Voices plenary session will feature perspectives of federal leaders and partners on implementation of the ACA. New this year! Power Sessions In addition to skills-building sessions and workshops, power sessions provide you with more valuable content! In order to offer you an even greater selection of educational opportunities this year, AMCHP is introducing power sessions condensed 40-minute workshops that will explore more focused topics than full-length workshops. Altogether, more than 80 skills-building sessions, power sessions, workshops and roundtables will address a broad range of topics related to MCH practice. Hear from expert colleagues and peers about the issues of most concern to you and learn what will have an impact on your MCH programs. Life Course Town Meeting Join us for a lively, interactive conversation about the life course perspective and MCH programs. Part of the AMCHP Annual Conference Training Institute, this event will feature national experts working to integrate the life course perspective across MCH health practice.
