My Very SMART Coaching Clients

The Four Questions: What is one characteristic of a smart person you remember? What characteristic makes a smart person stand out in your workplace? What behavior derails a smart person in your profession or workplace? If you were to give a career tip to a smart person, what would it be?

Top De-railers Need to be right Arrogant Has to be smartest all the time Aloof and reactionary Low social radar & impulse control Inability to work well on or lead team Can t play in the sandbox Focus on career success not career significance Best in the world not best for the world

Seven SMARTER Positive Emotions

Strength Awareness If you want to be successful, it s just this simple: Know what you re doing. Love what you re doing. And believe in what you re doing. Will Rogers Strength awareness is the ability to deepen and optimize strengths to achieve career success and significance!

Mastery If neither the positive or negative future has happened, then why not choose to believe in the positive future? The key word is choose! - Cynthia Kivland According to Joshua Freedman fear and hope both have something in common: a future that has not happened. Fear is a future with problems. Hope is a future with possibilities.

Attraction Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great. Mark Twain Attract people, experiences and outcomes that build positive emotional memories in self and others. You either attract or distract what happens in your life.

Resilience Your time is limited, so don t waste it living someone else s life. Don t let the noise of other s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. Steve Jobs Resilience is the ability to persevere and adapt when things aren t going the way you d like. When you act resiliently, you act from a proactive place of hope instead of a reactive place of fear.

Evolve Don t wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. - Mark Victor Hansen. Evolution is the ability to continuously improve, initiate and innovate. Evolution is the skill of anticipation.

Tolerance Tolerance is the ability to accept, acknowledge and appreciate our humanity. Tolerance is also the ability to recognize and eliminate habits that hold you back from your personal best.

Reciprocity Today we are faced with the pre-eminent fact that, if civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationships. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 1945 Emotions are contagious. We like to be around people who make us feel good. Reciprocity is the ability to lead and be led, teach and be taught, and give and receive.

Process Research Designed indicates that Training the limbic (PDT) system teaches learns through best motivation, through motivation, extended extended practice, practice, and positive and positive feedback feedback

The What If that Led to a New EI Teaching Process No one provided any clinically measured proof that could consistently increase EQ. The variable outcomes were dependent on the teaching skills of the coach/consultant/trainer. But, what about a group coaching process to increase EQ that is not coach or trainer dependent?

What If? What If that Led to a New EI Teaching Process A former engineer can incorporate the ISO process (mostly know in manufacturing) to improve personality traits?

FOCUS ON THE LIMBIC SYSTEM TO TEACH EI A process designed training (PDT) approach that applies four uniquely different teaching methods. A predictable method to increase EI. Learning by emulating the group's early adapters. It s motivational, receiving continual positive reinforcement as they learn. It directs all training to the neural-transmitters of the brain's limbic system by continually repeating the same practices until they become habits. The learning is entirely group and process-dependent not teacher dependent, and results in the same predictable outcome for each group.

The Research Began.. 1. UIC s two year high school principal s study*. 2. Proved the process increased the EQ of high school principals. 3. Awarded a federal grant to expand to elementary principals*.

Each person: Accountability and Practice Beyond the Group 1. Practiced their new habits between group meetings at least five times with friends, colleagues employees or family. 2. Recorded the EQ practice intervention and outcome. 3. Reported back to the group the best and worst of their outcomes. 4. Shared their experiences and the group learned from their outcomes. 5. Championed each other by citing the one thing they appreciated most on their efforts to implement these skills.

An Unexpected Surprise Every person in the group increased their own EQ habits but also the collective EQ of the group increased.
