Examination This examination is used to evaluate the viability of the cardiac muscle or to assess an infection process in the heart. A radioactive sugar derivative is used as the contrast agent. To slow down sugar metabolism, you will be directed to stay in bed rest for 1 2 hours. While resting, you are not allowed to move, read or use a phone. An intravenous catheter will be placed into your arm and a small amount of contrast agent will be administered via the catheter.
