Harvard Study Harvard did this big study and they feel an omega 3 deficiency is the 6 th reason for death in America. Do you think that is true? Picture of stuff that has Omega 3 It's in food like Nuts, Seafood like fish, oysters have some as well and spinach. The problem is with nuts, and spinach is are really are not getting that much omega 3. Fish has the most but there is some problems with it. How Fish Get Mercury There is nasty stuff floating around our oceans and rivers. Toxins, Nuclear spills, waste and there is something called mercury. This is how it gets in fish. Mercury Harmful Effects Mercury harms the body and here is a list. It is really bad for the brain. I know what you might be thinking, how about farm raised fish? It's not in the ocean. Picture of Farm Raised Fish As you can see there are tons of problems. There is 16 times more cancer causing PCB in farm raised fish than wild salmon according to the Environmental Working Group. According to Dr. Axe farmed fish has less usable omega-3 fatty acids than wild-caught fish, This is why so many people are deficient in Omega 3. Picture of Problems with Omega 3 Deficiency The reality is you need omega 3 fats. This is a big reason why. In this newsletter I talk about many health problems and I share alternative medicine to solve those problems. Omega 3 helps in nearly every case. The skin, vision, heart, the brain, libido, arthritis.
On and on The benefits go on and on like this sculpure. This is me in New Orleans and what a great peace of art. Picture of Omega 3 vs 6 Also so much of what we eat is omega 6. The problem is that it creates inflammation and that is bad. Inflammation is a major cause of aging, disease and pain. Some people estimate that the average American eats 20 times more omega 6 than 3. Now let's talk about the good stuff and how to find a supplement. DHA, EPA, ALA You might have noticed something called DHA and EPA in an omega 3 supplement. It looks like this and this brand, like most has more EPA than DHA. Chart of DHA and EPA The body uses both DHA and EPA differently and you need both. However DHA is better and the reason why is because it has more carbons. You can see in this picture DHA has 22C and EPA has 20C. The reason having more carbons is better is because the body can convert it to EPA by just removing 2 carbons. To convert EPA to DHA it's more difficult because the carbons are not there. Sort of like it's easier to spend money then make it right? To give you an idea how difficult it is to convert EPA to DHA. Studies from Oregon State University have shown that 8% of dietary ALA is converted to EPA and 0-4% is converted to DHA (6). In healthy young women, approximately 21% of dietary ALA is converted to EPA and 9% is converted to DHA. Remember how I talked about nuts and spinach not having that much omega 3? As you can see it's not the greatest. In a nutshell, when you go out and look for an omega 3 supplement getting one with more DHA than EPA is better and now you know why. Purity Next is purity. You don't don't want heavy metals, PCB's, dioxides, contamination s in fish oil. Where was the fish taken from?
This is a picture I took in Varesesi India, the famous river where the dead are thrown into the river. I didn't see any dead bodies floating around, but it happens when people don't have enough money for the wood to cremate a loved one, they go in the water. Probably one of the most polluted waters in the world and many people bath in it, which is gross. Some questions to ask about buying fish oil is was it in major shipping routes, close to heavily populated land masses? The brand that I use and recommend is from Xtend-Life they get their fish from the southern ocean away from heavily populated land masses and shipping routes. This is an example of what you want. Also does the supplement have a certificate of analysis, how about if they use GMP Compliant manufacturing? Those are really good things to have. Also, do they control the entire manufacturing process or do they outside some to cheaper places? Xtend-Life controls everything and that is better. Freshness Freshness is another thing to look for. Fish oil lasts so long then it spoils right? You can test by cutting up a fish oil capsule and smelling it. Does it smell rancid? If you smell a fragrance it could mean the company is trying to hide the smell. You really should smell a faint ocean smell and nothing more. Certificate of Analysis You can also look at the oxidation levels of the certificate of analysis (TOTOX) value. This is the one from Xtend-Life's fish oil. If a product doesn't have this certificate it's another warning sign. It is made up of Anisidine value Peroxide value Here is Xtend-Life's numbers, and you want them to be as low as possible. You can also see the DHA compared to EPA levels. Twice the DHA compared to EPA. Xtend-Life's fish oil passes all the international standards and the levels for mercury are 10 times lower than the standards set by international organizations. PCB level is set at 18 times lower than the US CRN. The dioxin levels are also set at a level four times lower.
It's very pure. Absorption When it comes to fish oil there really are 3 different types for absorption. Regular fish oil this is the natural form that you get when you squeeze the fish and extract the oil. It does have low amount of omega-3 because it is not concentrated and has high levels of contaminants, but it's natural and has maximum absorption. Ethyl Ester Oil occurs when you take natural triglyceride oil and concentrate it using a process called molecular distillation. It also eliminates contaminants, plus you can double even triple the amount of omega 3. The negative is that it's semi-natural to the body and may not have as good absorption. Xtend-Life's fish oil uses a combination of both of these so you get the most omega 3, reduce the contamination s and get the most absorption as possible. What is important to know is there is a third type that you really should avoid. Synthetic Triglyceride Oil that is very common and it is often marketed as natural when in fact it is not natural. It is very foreign to the human body. Just avoid it. Enteric Coating Enteric coating is an expensive process that protects the ingredients from stomach acid. It's needed with a mult-vitamin, but is NOT needed with fish oil. There is no evidence that enteric coating is needed for fish oil. Most of the studies the FDA is aware of indicate that fish oil is best absorbed in the stomach rather than the gut. The process of breaking down and preparing these fatty acids for absorption starts in the stomach. With enteric coating this doesn't happen and hurts absorption and therefore you don't get the benefits of the omega 3. Why buy something if you don't get the benefits right? This coating is used to prevent fishy aftertaste or fish burbs and might even be used to disguise rancid fish oil. Xtend-LIfe's fish oil doesn't use enteric coating. Next is...
Inflammation We all get aches and pains at time, arthritis sucks. Omega 3 is famous for eliminating these pains due to it's anti-inflammatory abilities. In a study by Trinity Bioactives part of the Wellington School of Medicine Xtend-Life's Omega 3 showed 2 and a half times that anti-inflammatory abilities as normal fish oil. Another reason why I love Xtend-Life's brand. Pharmaceutical Grade There is a term called Pharmaceutical Grade you might have seen this in fish oil. Heck it's even in sugar. There is therapeutic grade, Prices range anywhere from US$15 for a month s supply to US$159 to even $520 for a month's supply. pharmaceutical grade really is a marketing term to get you to spend more money. Your buying the name. There is no evidence to support the cost. Also they do have different types of fish oil even very tiny pills for kids. Pregnant women and kids can take the fish oil. Since kids are growing so much it probably benefits them more than adults. They also have a version with stuff that helps the prostate for guys. When guys hit the age of 60 50% of men will have some sign of an enlarged prostate. By the age of 85 90% of men will have it.. It's the number 1 place for cancer. It also makes you pee at 1 AM in the morning when you should be sleeping. Plus very importantly they have one that really affects improves coq10. Basically coq10 is the source of energy for cells, our heart and our brain needs it. It's the key nutrient for generating 95% of total energy. When we get older our coq10 declines for example at 80 someone has around 43% of coq10 that they had when they were born. Plus if you take any type of prescription medicine I believe that around 150 of them will reduce coq10 in the body. If you want to learn more please click on the purple link below where I explain the different omega 3's. Remember knowledge is one thing, but using it is the other.
