SPOTLIGHT STUDENT HEROES TAKE HOME TOP TROPHY AT SCOTTISH STUDENT SPORT COLLEGE CUP FINALS EDINBURGH COLLEGE AND SPARTANS INSPIRE YOUNGSTERS WITH FOOTBALL Edinburgh College has teamed up with Spartans Community Football Academy to give students new skills and confidence through the power of sport. Students undertake a series of football-related challenges, projects and activities, including football training sessions and other practical tasks. Classes are delivered at the college and the Spartans Community Football Academy, where the students are enveloped in football culture and do their football training. Practical football sessions with Spartans coaches help them develop their teamwork and confidence. Edinburgh College students took home the top trophy at the Scottish Student Sport (SSS) College Cup Finals for the fourth year in a row. The annual event features the most talented college student athletes from across Scotland, who come together to compete to be national champions. Edinburgh College entered teams into six out of the eight events. The students put on an outstanding display and secured first place at five out of the six events: men s rugby 7s; men s basketball; men s volleyball; women s basketball; and mixed badminton. As winners of the most events, the college team was crowned the overall tournament champion and winner of the SSS College Cup. The students also had some individual success, collecting most-valuable-player awards in mixed badminton, women s volleyball and men s basketball and volleyball. One of the good things about the project with Spartans is that it makes studying more like real life. We covered working as a team, time management and making up training plans.
