CHILLOUT MkIII - User Guide The ChillOut unit is a non-invasive electronic device specifically developed for personal use. It offers the capacity to ease emotional stress, enhance general wellbeing and counteract the effects of electromagnetic pollution (EMF). It has user selectable programs designed to calm emotions and aid sleep patterns. The device utilises ultra-low-level pulsed magnetic fields designed to resonate with the body s natural acupuncture meridian system and provide support for the body s natural selfregulating and adaption mechanisms. This user guide explains the use and operation of the ChillOut unit. 1

About the Device The ChillOut unit offers two categories of wellbeing programs: Automated Background programs programs that run automatically during the day and night (24/7). These are designed to generally aid wellbeing, counteract the effects of EMF pollution and reduce stress. To show the automatic programs are active the center yellow activity light will glow for a couple of seconds once per minute. Manual User programs programs the user can select and use as and when required. These provide the potential to calm emotions and aid sleep patterns. All features are accessed via the single button on the control panel. Mounting options The mounting ring can be used to attach a neck cord, chain, lanyard or key ring or it can be left unattached. The mounting ring is permanently attached to the unit and cannot be removed. User Programs The ChillOut unit provides two selectable user programs that are activated by pressing the button: The first press activates the Calm program and the second press the Sleep program. When a program is active the corresponding red program indicator light and the central yellow light pulsate. Each program runs for a preset time of 12 minutes after which they automatically switch off and the lights stop flashing. The user programs can be stopped at any stage by pressing the button to advance to Sleep and pressed once more to turn off (when all the lights will go out). 2

Description of User Programs: Calm: This program is designed to work with both acute and chronic stress and anxiety and offers the potential for a general calming and relaxing effect, promoting a quieter and more peaceful mind. The program runs for 12 minutes. Sleep: Helps establish improved sleep patterns. It is best used a little before retiring to bed. If waking during the night the Calm program may be more effective than the Sleep setting but do experiment. The run time is 12 minutes. Using the Unit There are two primary ways in which the ChillOut can be applied: a) Generally the unit should be kept on or near the body in a convenient place, such as a pendant over the chest, in a pocket as a key ring. Just having it on the body is sufficient for the background programs to have beneficial effects. At night it can be placed under the pillow. b) For more specific action the unit may be placed on an acupoint as described in the Suggested Use section of this guide. The unit only needs to be placed in an acupoint s general location to be effective. Battery Charge Level To show the battery level press and hold in the button on the front panel until the yellow battery light shows along with a number of red lights. The number of red lights indicates the battery charge: 4 red lights = fully charged 3 red lights = good level of charge 2 red lights = medium level of charge 1 red light = low charge Yellow battery light flashing = discharged After a couple of seconds of indicating the battery level all the lights will go out. NOTE: If the battery is left in a discharged state then the unit will go into hibernation mode and the background programs no longer run. When the button is pressed, depending on the battery depletion level, the battery light may flash a few times or will not come on at all. The user programs will not start. It is necessary to recharge the unit to make it active again. 3

Putting the Unit into Sleep Mode When the unit is not being used it can be put into sleep mode to save the battery charge. To put the unit into sleep mode press and hold in the button until the battery level is shown, then keep pressing the button until all the red indicator lights come on and then go out one at time in a counter clockwise direction, then release the button. While in sleep mode all the background programs are stopped. To wake the unit from sleep press and hold in the button until the red indicator lights come on one at a time in a clockwise direction and then release the button. The background programs will then operate normally. Charging the Battery The built in rechargeable battery is charged by inserting a micro USB lead into the socket in the side of the unit and connecting the other end to a USB charger or USB port on a computer. To open the USB port dust cover insert a small screwdriver into the grove as shown and gently lever it open. When charging the yellow battery light on the front panel is illuminated and stays illuminated for as long as the charger is attached. To check the battery level during charging it is best to disconnect the charging lead, wait a few moments and then hold in the button on the front panel until the battery light shows. A fully charged battery (four red lights) gives at least a month s use. It is recommended to charge the unit until it is fully charged (four red lights). The time required to charge the battery will depend on how discharged it is. If the battery level is at two red lights then a full charge takes around 7 hours. If the battery is fully discharged (flashing battery light) then a soak charge of 20 hours is recommended. If the unit is going to remain unused for several months then it is recommended to fully charge it, put it into sleep mode and give it a recharge every six months to preserve the battery. If the battery is left fully discharged for an extended time then it may start to deteriorate. Therapeutic action The ChillOut unit delivers two primary therapeutic actions: Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields (PEMF) a well-proven and accepted therapeutic technology using low frequency, short duration, low intensity magnetic pulses to stimulate the body. Multiple studies have shown the benefits of well-targeted PEMF to be both positive and wide ranging including: accelerated tissue repair, pain relief, improved inflammation response, improved sleep, accelerated bone repair and much more. 4

Adaptive Resonance an advanced approach that adds resonant signature patterns within the magnetic fields to provide targeted action and potency to the PEMF effect. Adaptive Resonance enables the therapeutic programs to resonate with specific aspects of the body s adaption and regulation systems as well as acupuncture meridians. This allows for precise tailoring of the programs action. How Often to Use the User Programs The user programs can be used as and when needed and can be used several times in succession if required. The background programs offer a degree of stress reduction, sleep enhancement and revitalising action and the user programs offer a boosting action. Using Automatic Background Programs The background programs are designed to offer a gentle, steady and holistic action to enhance general wellbeing and reduce stress reactions over weeks and months. The ultimate aim is to experience a better state of wellbeing without the continual aid of the device. We suggest you remove the unit for a day or two every now and again and to gradually extend the periods without the device. Also, as changes occur then past stressors of a physical, emotional and mental form may be released and it is important to drink adequate quantities of water to help flush these through. Stretching and movement exercises also help - consult an appropriately qualified instructor. Precautions of use Under normal use the ChillOut unit is completely safe to use, however for legal reasons it is not recommend that people under 18 years of age, pregnant or fitted with a pace maker or deep brain implant use it without first consulting with a health care professional. Also if you have a medical condition please consult a health care professional. Suggested Use This section offers suggestions for enhancing the effectiveness of the user programs by utilising acupoints. In the following diagrams acupoint locations are shown as red circles with a name beside them. For example ST-36 : the first two letters are an abbreviation for the meridian (ST = Stomach) and the number identifies the specific point on the meridian. All notes against acupoints are Traditional Chinese Medicine associations and not necessarily medically proven. No claims are made, only suggestions for using the unit for personal purposes. If you have a medical complaint always seek the advice of a professional. Place the unit with the activity light over and facing the general location of the acupoint. Due to the broad-spectrum output of the device it only needs to be placed in the general location of an acupoint for effective action. From a practical and therapeutic perspective most people find that one or two points work best for them and stick with those. Other 5

people find they don t need to use acupoints and benefit from just having the device on their person. Point Suggestions for Calm, Sleep: To enhance the user programs the following acupoints can be used. Calm primary points: CV-15, HP-6, KI-1. Also consider SP-6, GV-16, ST-36. Sleep primary points: HP-6, SP-6 also consider KI-1, CV-15. When using the Calm program additional benefit can be gained by paying attention to the breath. Consciously adopting slow, deep and steady breathing and being aware of the air moving in and out of the nose is a good way of helping achieve a calmer state of being. Quality of sleep is a very personal thing and can be affected by multiple factors. It is advised to research these and how they may be affecting you. There is lots of advice on the web, e.g. www.sleep.org Many complementary approaches may be worth investigating. AcuPoint Reference HP-6 Heart Protector 6 (Inner Gate) Used as a general point for calming and harmonizing the mind. Insomnia, nervousness, stress. Opens and relaxes the chest. Nausea, motion sickness, carpal tunnel syndrome. Location: Three finger widths from the wrist crease on the mid line of the inner forearm. KI-1 Kidney 1 (Bubbling spring) Helps for a tranquil mind and calms the heart. Headaches, pain in the neck, nausea. Grounding point. Location: On the underside of the foot in the mid line towards the front just before where the ball of the foot starts. CV-15 Central Vessel 15 Clears, Calms and Strengthens the Mind and Heart. Location: On the mid line of the front just below the sternum. 6

GV-16 Governing Vessel 16 Clears the mind. Headaches and stiff neck. Location: On the mid line of the back of the neck on the natural hairline at the base of the skull. Use The unit is sealed against water ingress and will tolerate being wet and submerged in shallow water for a short length of time. However it is not designed to be used when swimming or to be subject to high-pressure of water. It is recommended to keep the unit dry as much as possible. The unit is tolerant of shock loads but do not subject it to excessive loads or constant vibration. Its operating temperature range is -5 C to +40 C. Clean with a damp cloth only - do not use chemicals. Only charge the unit from a standard USB charger outlet.
