2 Pure animal nutrition Aliphos - the name in feed
ingredients A liphos is the feed ingredients division of Ecophos, a leading global provider of business solutions, technology and engineering for the major challenges facing today s phosphate industry. We are one of the largest European producers of inorganic feed phosphates for animal and aquaculture feeds and own two production sites in Europe. We also market a variety of other specialised feed materials and feed additives. Primarily commercialized as the Aliphos green and blue lines under the Aliphos and Windmill brand names, each product guarantees optimal animal performance and welfare, with maximum respect for the environment. 3
The Aliphos range Our range of Aliphos and Windmill feed phosphates not only includes dicalcium, monocalcium and monodicalcium phosphates but also magnesium and ammonia-based products for use in compound, mineral or mash feeds, as well as in mineral blocks. They are produced at our modern, ISO 9001 and GMP+ certified plants at Vlaardingen, near Rotterdam, in the Netherlands and Devnya, close to the Black Sea, in Bulgaria. Each feed phosphate from Aliphos offers feed producers a safe, highly digestible source of phosphorus for ruminant, monogastric and aquaculture feeds with a consistent, precise nutritional value and high product purity that is fully controlled and traceable. 4 Pure animal nutrition
Our range of glycinates provides pure, highly absorbable sources of the trace elements copper, zinc, manganese and iron. Other specialised feed materials include magnesium oxides and sodium (bi-) carbonates, as well as coated selenium, micro-encapsulated organic acids and essential oils, and clay minerals. We supply our products to customers throughout the world in bulk, big bags or 25kg bags. These are delivered by water, rail or road. Details of the complete Aliphos range can be found on our website: www.aliphos.com. Each feed phosphate from Aliphos offers a safe, highly digestible source of phosphorus. 5
Committed to quality and Our processes use the best available technology to create a complete range of very pure granular products (coarse, fine or powdered) suitable for all types of feed application. Every aspect of an Aliphos product is checked before it leaves the production chain. Our laboratory, backed by the resources of the Ecophos group, plays a vital role in controlling the quality of Aliphos products. Our technical support works closely with our production and commercial departments to improve our products and processes and in developing different types of feed phosphate for new applications and least-cost formulations. Every aspect of an Aliphos product is checked before it leaves the production chain, including the quality of our raw materials, the manufacturing conditions, and the purity and physical aspect of the finished product. We also place a major emphasis on equipment and training to ensure the safety of our operations and to limit their environmental impact. 6 Pure animal nutrition
customer support Our HACCP based GMP+ quality system points out every risk of contamination and implements the necessary measures to avoid these. Our control system covers the entire production process, so we can guarantee the complete traceability of our products. Global service, local response The Aliphos marketing and sales organisation matches the changing pattern of the animal feed industry. Our network of highly qualified distributors and agents is totally familiar with its local markets. It can also count on specialist Aliphos staff to provide prompt advice and on-site technical assistance to feed producers whenever specific problems in phosphorus supplementation arise. The Aliphos logistics and sales support team is committed to efficient order processing and prompt delivery from our plants, ensuring a rapid and reliable response to customers needs. 7
Versatile feed solutions The Aliphos range offers phosphorus concentrations and ratios to meet virtually every application. Optimal livestock production requires high quality, well balanced feeds with sufficient levels of minerals to meet each stage of the animal s production cycle. An adequate supply of phosphorus is vital to animal health and productivity. As the second most abundant mineral element in the body after calcium, phosphorus plays a major metabolic role and has more physiological functions than any other element. It is involved in developing and maintaining skeletal tissue (80% of phosphorus is found in the bones), in energy utilisation and transfer, and in the maintenance of osmotic and acid-base balances. The most common symptoms of a phosphorus deficiency include loss of appetite, reduction in live-weight gain, bone disorders, reduced hatchability, reduced fertility and increased vulnerability to specific diseases. 8 Pure animal nutrition
The phosphorus supply can either be incorporated into complete feeds or used as a mineral supplement in the production of feed on the farm. The Aliphos range offers a choice of phosphorus concentrations and calcium/ phosphorus and magnesium/phosphorus ratios to meet virtually every application. Respect for the environment While phosphorus is one of the main nutrients for healthy animal growth, an oversupply can upset the ecological balance of the environment. It is, therefore, most important that diet formulations match animal phosphorus requirements as closely as possible and phosphorous excretions, in manure or otherwise, are kept as low as possible. Selection of raw materials with high phosphorus digestibility and feed phosphates with predictable composition and digestibility can significantly reduce levels of phosphorus excretion. Aliphos has developed a system in which major raw materials are evaluated based on their digestible phosphorus content. Knowledge of the phosphorus requirements of different animal species together with the use of least-cost formulations enables producers to adopt feeding practices that are both economical and environmentally-friendly. 9
Selecting the right product A lthough the choice of a particular feed phosphate depends on individual feeding requirements, its selection should primarily be based on its biological value or digestibility, its chemical composition - particularly its calcium/phosphorus ratio - and its level of undesirable elements. Aliphos and Windmill feed phosphates are intrinsically predictable in their phosphorus content and digestibility. Feed phosphate solubility is widely used to determine product quality. By itself, however, solubility does not reliably predict the biological value of a particular product. If its solubility is greater than 95% in both 2% citric acid and alkaline ammonium citrate, the only assumption that can be made is that the product can be considered to be of feed quality. Nutritional value The real nutritional value of a feed phosphate can only be assessed by means of animal trials. Preferably, results should be expressed as digestible phosphorus content, determined by measuring the difference between ingested and excreted 10 Pure animal nutrition
phosphorus. This is a precise evaluation system delivering absolute values. Results from animal trials carried out over the years by highly respected institutes in several countries show that Aliphos and Windmill feed phosphates contain consistently high levels of digestible phosphorus. The products are intrinsically predictable in their phosphorus content and digestibility, providing the right balance between the requirements of the animal and the phosphorus supplied by the feed. The latest digestibility figures for the Aliphos range can be found on our website: www.aliphos.com. Guaranteed quality Aliphos and Windmill feed phosphates are manufactured according to the highest product standards and environmental acceptability. They carry the Quality Feed Phosphates symbol, a registered trademark developed by Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, which guarantees their chemical composition and purity. The symbol is backed by a random sampling and testing procedure that ensures that products comply at all times with the relevant EU regulations and standards. 11
