Screening and Vaccination for Students - FAQs Why is vaccination for health science students important? Healthcare workers (HCWs) including health science students are at risk of being infected with communicable diseases due to the contact that they have with infectious patients or the patients specimens during the course of their work. Optimal use of recommended vaccinations helps to maintain immunity, safeguard the health of HCWs and reduces the risk of nosocomial infections from vaccine-preventable diseases among HCWs, and prevents them from infecting susceptible patients. Before the 1 st clinical placement, students must have at least 2 doses of Hep B vaccination 1st dose of Varicella & MMR All required screening and vaccination must be completed by week 16, Semester 2 of the first year of study. What will happen if I don t complete all the required screening & vaccination? Students who do NOT complete or comply with the required screening & vaccination will be DECLINED for clinical placements by healthcare institutions. What should I bring along to the clinic? However, you are required to provide the screening & vaccination update with the relevant documents to Raffles Medical Clinic @ AMK regularly or when the clinic contacts you for an update. Why must I keep Raffles Medical Clinic @ Ang Mo Kio updated on my vaccination status? It is a requirement from MOH that the School of Health Sciences keeps an updated data file for ALL students. Raffles Medical Clinic @ Ang Mo Kio has been appointed to provide screening & vaccination services to SHS staff and students, track and maintain the screening Page 2 of 5
and vaccination records for students. The clinic will provide a monthly update to the School. Can I use my PSEA to pay for the required screening & vaccination? Yes, the expenditure of the screening & vaccination may be reimbursed by your PSEA. Please do the following: 1. Check if you have a PSEA via MOE-PSEA website: https://www.moe.gov.sg/education/post-secondary/post-secondaryeducation-account 2. Call PSEA 24-hr hotline, 62600777 to ensure sufficient fund. 3. Keep original receipts for the vaccinations/screening. 4. Submit form within 2 months of expenditure. 5. Download PSEA Ad Hoc Withdrawal form from https://www.moe.gov.sg/education/post-secondary/post-secondaryeducation-account/usage or Collect PSEA Ad Hoc Withdrawal form from SHS Admin counter. 6. Return completed forms & original receipt to SHS Admin office within 2 months of expenditure. Please refer to the Annex 2 for pointers to complete the form. Who will access my screening & vaccination records? Your screening & vaccination records are kept confidential by the School. It will only be released to the person in-charge at the healthcare institution when a clinical incident with potential risk of blood-borne diseases (Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, & HIV) and infectious diseases occurs. Annex 1 Summary of Screening and Vaccination Requirements for Students on PECT from 1 January 2015 Infectious Disease Recommended Group Recommendations for vaccination Acceptable evidence of immunity Hepatitis B All HCWs and HCWs who perform exposure prone procedures Primary vaccination consists of 3 doses at 0, 1 and 6 months.
