I recently completed an accredited, three-years Master's degree in clinical herbal medicine and nutrition, and despite my distrust of Big Pharma on many issues, I have found that there are many hucksters out to make a quick buck in the alternative and complementary medicine arena. That they are not part of Big Pharma does not mean they are motivated by noble goals. The information in this book is not "secret" or "blacklisted" and is not as definitive as the hucksters would suggest. Do your own research: PubMed and Google Scholar are good places to start and if you are in a major urban area you may be able to access online journals and medical information through medical school or university libraries. When listening to anecdotal accounts, keep in mind that some people will recover regardless of what therapies they take, and that no therapy works for everyone. The beauty of herbal and mycological remedies is that they may be helpful and unlike harsh chemotherapies and surgery, are relatively benign. Conventional medicine continues to be at odds with traditional/herbal/complementary medicine, and our society would be much better off with a truly integrative approach. But the hyperbole and half-baked information put out there by financially motivated supplement hucksters and their information outlets serves only to make harder the reconciliation of the conventional and alternative/complementary approaches. The herbal and mycological medicines discussed in this book are worth looking into but if the author and Agora really cared about people and their health they could put the information online in PDF form at no charge or sell this book---which is nothing but a compilation of research---for a fraction of the price. At the very least they could provide a simple list of the remedies covered at no charge and let people do their own, unbiased research. In addition to PubMed and Google Scholar, another way to go about doing your own research on herbal and mycological cancer therapies is to see what reputable resellers such as iherb have available in the category of "immune support." Reputable companies will generally not directly tout products "for cancer" as that violates FDA rules but can discuss immune support. In some cases the product information mentions that the products were formulated by oncologists etc. A small company called Madre Labs has developed some outstanding mycologically-based immune products that could be helpful in cancer therapy. They sell their products through iherb. Allergy Research Group has a high quality mushroom-based product developed by the Nutricology group and an oncologist. Donald Yance has developed a targeted approach to working with cancer patients and puts that information online at no charge through his various websites including the Mederi Foundation and the Centre for Natural Healing. I am NOT associated with these companies in any way. Agora is a master of promotional writing and marketing and I resent the way in which these masters of hype prey on people who may be desperate. By JackMetal First let me say I'm a major believer in alternative medicine and herbs. There are a number of scams and ripoffs within the natural health community and this is one of them. This is basically a booklet put out at a very high price by Agora Publishing and Health Sciences Institute - both scams. The book does mention a number of things that work but priced at over $39.00 it's a ripoff of epic proportions. There are many books on Amazon with that cover the same info at a fraction of the price. They go into much greater detail and explain how to use the specific protocols mentioned, such as Out Smart Your Cancer by Tanya Harter Pierce or Cancer is Not a Disease by Andreas Moritz, also Cancer-Free by Bill Henderson is excellent along with Cancer Step Outside The Box by Ty Bollinger. 123 of 129 people found the following review helpful. There are a number of negative reviews here that have been written by so called "experts" on alternative healing methods. I felt the need to counter the negativity with my viewpoint as someone who is not a part of that profession. When I purchased this book I had little if any knowledge of cancer treatment, traditional or alternative. I needed as much information as possible at the time. It is my belief that you can never have too much information when you or a loved one is diagnosed with a devastating and deadly disease such as cancer. The benefit of reading this book is first of all, to know and understand what treatments are available in addition to the traditional medical model and secondly to use this information as a starting point for your own research. Knowledge, of course is power. For the lay person it is difficult to have a comprehensive awareness or understanding of what types of cancer treatments are available. For most of us it is the first time we have had the need for this information. When faced with this difficult situation people are often confused and as a result need as much information as possible to assist them in making critical decisions. Even if this book assists you in ruling out certain treatments then it is worth every penny. For example because I do not have a medical or alternative medical background, I found it extremely difficult to wade through the myriad of options for my father when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I purchased this book so I could further investigate what was available. I found that there were many treatment possibilities I had not known about before, however, my parents were skeptical about alternative medicine and they trusted their medical doctor implicitly. Looking back, my father made what he believed at the time was the best decision. His oncologist, who had an excellent reputation in our community suggested that my father take part in an experimental program. Although his cancer was in the early stages, to him, it seemed like a "safe bet" compared to the the alternative treatment options I suggested. Looking back, I wish he would have taken the time to at least try some of the less mainstream options. My father applied to be a part of this experimental medical trial. With only limited spots available, there were many patients who were desperate to take part but it was determined that only a select few would have that privilege. My father was elated to be one of the "chosen ones". I won't get into the details of the treatment, but for my beloved father it was a death sentence. His cancer spread very quickly as a result of the treatment itself and he died far sooner than he would have otherwise. We were and are still devastated about the outcome, but how do you know what will work and what won't? When it comes to cancer treatment it is not a "one size fits all" situation. What seems like outright quackery to one person may be exactly what works for someone else. How can anyone else make that determination? Much has to do with your own personal beliefs and what you accept as being possible. I have had amazing results with energy healing and have seen it work for many others. Others swear by herbal remedies for health issues which I find difficult to believe would ever work.
