Causes skin and eye irritation. Harmful if inhaled or swallowed. Dust is irritating to respiratory tract. May cause teratogenicity effects. Can cause adverse reproductive effects. Section 3 Hazardous Ingredients Ingredient Synonyms CAS # Concentration * Potassium Iodide Potassium Mon iodide, 7681-11-0 90% Hydriodic Acid, Potassium Salt Calcium Stearate None 1592-23-0 10% *All concentrations are a percentage by weight unless ingredient is a gas. Gas concentrations are in percent by volume. Section 4 First Aid Measures Eyes: Immediately flush eyes with copious quantities of water for at least 15 minutes holding lids apart ensure flushing of the entire surface. Call a physician. Skin: Immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Call a physician. Wash contaminated clothing before reusing. Inhalation: Remove patient to fresh air. Administer approved oxygen supply if breathing is difficult. Administer artificial respiration or CPR if breathing has ceased. Call a physician. Ingestion: If conscious, wash out mouth with water. Have conscious person drink 2-3 glasses of milk or water (less Potassium Iodide SDS Page 1

effective). DO NOT induce vomiting. DO NOT give acidic agents; this may cause an exothermic reaction and burn the oesophagus. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious or convulsing person. Call a physician. Note to Physician: Treat symptomatically. May cause severe pneumonitis if aspirated. If ingestion has occurred less than 2 hours earlier, carry out careful gastric lavage to prevent aspiration. Observe patient for respiratory difficulty from aspiration pneumonitis. Section 5 Fire Fighting Measures Extinguish Media: Use extinguishes media appropriate for surrounding materials. Unsuitable Extinguishing Media: Specific Hazard: Spilled material may cause floors and contact surfaces to become slippery. Hazardous Combustion Products: Oxides of potassium, hydrogen iodide, iodine fumes. Special Protective Equipment: Use self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing. Fire Fighting Instructions: Fire-exposed containers should be kept cool by spraying with water to reduce pressure. Section 6 Accidental Release Measures Personal Precautions: Wear respirator, protective clothing and gloves. Environmental Precautions: Do not flush into sewers or waterways. Cleanup Procedure: Dike or contain spill. Sweep up and place in an approved container, Clean up residues with water. Ventilate spill area. Section 7 Handling and Storage Handling: Do not breathe mists, Do not ingest. Do not get in eyes, on skin or on clothing. Wash well after use. Do not allow smoking and food consumption while handling. Sweep up immediately to eliminate slippery hazard. Storage: Store in a cool, dry and well-ventilated area. Keep container tightly closed. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. Protect against physical damage. Store away from incompatible materials. Storage Incompatibility: Attacks metals in presence of moisture. Conditions to Avoid: Avoid high temperatures, sparks, open flames and all other sources of ignition. On long exposures to air becomes yellow due to the release of iodine. Air sensitive. Avoid moisture contamination. Hazardous Reactions: Hazardous polymerization will not occur. Mechanical Impact Sensitivity: No Static Discharge Sensitivity: No Vibration Sensitivity: Hazardous Decomposition Products: Oxides of potassium, hydrogen iodide, iodine fumes. Routes of Entry: Inhalation and ingestion. Eye and skin contact. Section 11 Toxicological Properties Acute Health Effects Skin Contact: May cause drying of the skin due to absorption of moisture and oils. In the presence of moisture (perspiration, humidity, tears) the dust dissolves to form a solution which may cause burns. May cause skin sensitization. Eye Contact: Cause severe irritation with redness and pain, lachrymation and conjunctivitis. Inhalation: Irritating to the nose, throat and respiratory tract. May cause coughing and sneezing, shortness of breath. Ingestion: Causes severe burning and pain in the mouth, throat and abdomen. Vomiting, diarrhea and perforation of the oesophagus and stomach may occur. Chronic Health Effects Skin Contact: Eye Contact: Inhalation: Prolonged or repeated exposure may cause headaches, weakness, thyroid effects, anemia, goiter, idoism (salivation, weakness, sneezing, and lacrimation) and central nervous system depression.
