START WITH THE SAFETY OF RECIPROCATION File separation or breakage can result in serious complications and substantially lengthen the treatment time. The two main causes of file separation are cyclic and torsional fatigue in rotary movement. Proper file movement, like reciprocation, minimizes fatigue and leads to better, more predictable outcomes. RECIPROCATION Alternating between clockwise and counter-clockwise in adjustable degrees of rotation reduces the buildup of stress in both file and dentin. Reciprocation also helps to prevent file separation by reducing torsional stress and cyclic fatigue.
