Thanks to the hard work of supporters like you, we are able to continue providing important services and programs for more than 500 families in need every year. This Fundraising Toolkit will provide you with step-by-step instructions to help you make your fundraising a big success! About the Red Door For almost 30 years the Red Door Family Shelter has been providing emergency housing and support services to women who are escaping domestic violence, and to refugees/families experiencing a housing crisis. We play an integral role in the community, helping more than 500 families each year to heal and rebuild their lives so they can live safely and independently. Quick Facts Every year we serve more than 500 families (that s over 1200 individuals) in the GTA We provide 156 beds and 20 cribs in the Toronto shelter system. On average we have a 96% occupancy rate. Nearly half of all clients we serve are single women or mothers escaping situations of domestic violence with their children. On any given night, more than 50% of our residents are children Close to one third of the clients we serve are refugees fleeing desperate situations in their home countries. In addition to shelter we provide a wide range of services that are integral to helping families heal and assist them in establishing a safe and independent life in the community. These include in-house counseling, medical support, legal and immigration assistance, child care and educational programs, and support to find and secure permanent housing. Financial support for many of these critical programs comes largely from community support including donors like you! Where does the money go? All funds raised in support of Team Red Door will go directly into the critical programs and services we provide to our clients to help them heal and establish themselves in the community. Your commitment to raise $100 dollars will help provide a woman with accompaniment from our Outreach Department to attend a court hearing so she will not have to face her abuser alone. Your commitment to raise $250 dollars will help provide a safety plan for a woman fleeing abuse so that she and her children can gain the security and reassurance of knowing the abuse will stop, permanently. Your commitment to raise $500 dollars will help provide immigration assistance to 3 refugee families, helping ensure that they will be able to make a brighter future in Canada. 1

How to use your Artez Fundraising Page Logging into your account You can re-access your online fundraising account by returning to: https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/startup.aspx?eventid="85736 You can log in using the Username and Password we provided to you when you registered. Functions of your page Your page displays your name, fundraising goal and who you re raising funds for. You can customize your page to include photos, video, and include a personal message to your supporters by clicking Customize Personal Page on the left side-bar. 2

How to link to your page To generate a link to include in your emails to your sponsors, simply go to the top tab Fundraising and clicking on the Get Sponsors link located in the left side bar. This will provide with a link to include in your emails to direct your supporters to your page. Offline Donations What do I do with offline donation forms and cash & cheque donations? Cheques should be made out to Red Door Family Shelter. Please send all offline pledge forms and donation forms directly to: Mark Zurawinski, Red Door Family Shelter, 21 Carlaw Avenue, Toronto, M4M 2R6 If you have any questions, please call or email Mark at: 416-915-5671 ex. 232 or email mzurawwinski@reddoorshelter.ca How do I enter my cash & cheque donations into Artez? 1. Log into your personal online fundraising account. 2. Click on the Fundraising Tab at the top. 3. Click on Manage Cash & Cheques in the left hand menu. 4. Follow the instructions to Enter New Cash or Cheque Donation 5. Click Add Donation. Result: You will receive a notification indicating Cash or Cheque donation successfully added. How Do I Pay my Cash Donation On My Credit Card? 1. Click on Make a Donation Now 2. Complete the form online. Results: 1. You will receive a confirmation that the payment was successful processed. 2. An electronic tax receipt will be emailed. 3

1-2-3 Step Guide to Fundraising 1) Planning Set a manageable fundraising goal that you can attain Make a list of all the people in your network who you could ask for a donation. Think especially about who you might have supported financially in the past. Decide when the best time to ask would be. For example, if you re sending requests by email, and if many of your contacts tend to be away for the summer, it might be best to send your first email after Labour Day. Personalize your online fundraising page (follow the instructions from Registration) Ask someone you can count on for one generous pledge to get things going and build momentum, before you begin your campaign. 2) Asking Who should you email, who should you call/ask in person? Draft your request before you email and have someone else look it over (typos!) In your request, make sure to let people know why you re running and why you chose to support the Red Door, or include a bit of info about the Red Door, or how your pledge will help. You can also use or refer to one of the email templates provided below. Make sure to include the link in your email to your personal fundraising page. Send away! 3) Follow-up Monitor your fundraising progress by checking into your personal page periodically. Keep track of who you received donations from on a spreadsheet or write them down (so you can thank them later!) Keep your friends updated on your progress with Facebook/Twitter. Send a follow up email 1-2 weeks later to your list to let them know your progress. Thank everyone who supported so far, and give a gentle nudge to those who haven t. After the race, you could send personalized thank you notes to each donor who supported you, and include a picture of yourself to prove you did it! Let your supporters know what a difference they re helping make for hundreds of families in need. 4

Resources Motivational fundraising tips 1. Just ask: Some of the anxiety around fundraising is about asking for money. Using the online system you can easily ask friends and family, near and far by email and through online social networks, and you don t risk any embarrassment because it is all done over the Internet. No face to face asking! 2. Everyone is a potential donor: Get into the habit of asking for a donation! You d be surprised, but if you ask, people are more than willing to give! Start with the people you know and feel comfortable around. (Your warm contacts.) This will guarantee you some sponsors as well as boost your confidence. Ask your family, friends, neighbours, and co-workers. You can even ask for sponsors in lieu of gifts for birthdays and holidays. Try adding your personal page link into your email signature, and let people know why you are fundraising! Find out if your company or workplace will match your fundraising efforts dollar for dollar. Use social media as an easy tool to generate some interest and get others talking about your race. 3. Update your online Personal Page: It s a great opportunity to share your story. You can update your personal page with your own picture and message to let everyone know you are fundraising. You d be surprised, but you will find that your friends, neighbours, and co-workers may also have their own stories to share. Sample Email Scripts 1.
