Send to: Lion Patti Gauch H: 330-527-2048 bygoneacres@cebridge.net Our servicemen and women sacrifice so much for our country. On Memorial Day, we come together as a nation to remember and honor those who lost their lives while serving. U.S. veterans serve our country with pride and distinction, and their contributions continue long after their military service ends. The Involve a U.S. Veteran program recognizes the contributions of veterans and their value to our communities and local Lions clubs. The program waives the charter or entrance fee for any qualifying veteran who joins a new or existing Lions club between July 1 st, 2013 and June 30 th, 2015. This special pilot program is offered only in the United States. Eligible veterans include retired U.S. military personnel or honorably-discharged members of the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard Services, Marines, National Guard, Navy or Reserves. Those currently serving in the National Guard or Reserves are also eligible. Lions Clubs International will provide an entrance fee waiver of $25 ($30 for charter members) to the first 5,000 qualified U.S. veterans that join a local Lions club. Hundreds of U.S. veterans have taken advantage of this special program, including Robert Aguilar, Jr., a former marine who recently became a Lion in California. Read more about Robert's story. As service members leave the military and come home, let's provide them with an opportunity to get involved in their communities and serve as Lions. Visit the Involve a U.S. Veteran Web page to learn more about the program. Kind regards, Barry J. Palmer Your International President If we dream boldly and pursue our dreams, we will achieve more than we ever believed possible. This is our time to lead. This is your time to acihieve. Together We Can Grow Service Clubs that achieve exceptional membership growth can earn special rewards in the Together We Can Grow Contest. One club in each district cab win a choice of US$250 in credit toward LCI club supplies or a US$250 donation toward the club s next Melvin Jones Fellow. Encourage you clubs to keep recruiting so they can earn rewards in the Together We Can Grow Contest. I'd like you to join me in encouraging clubs to host one more service project over the next two months. We became Lions to serve, so it's critical that we get new members involved in service right away. It's also important to keep seasoned members involved in projects that reflect their interests and the causes that are important to them. Be sure to remind your clubs to share their projects through the online Service Activity Report!

From Your District Governor - DG Tom Zickefoose Hello Lions, First I like to thank everyone for a great Lions year! To those who made the state convention, I would like to say it was unfortunate that things were said that should not have been. I would like to congratulate ZC Betty Robins on being elected our new SVDG. I also would like to congratulate FVDGe Bob Allgood for receiving a Leadership award and PDG Bob Whited for receiving his Presidential Award congratulations to all. We went to Ravenna Lions Club Tuesday and helped them give out awards to the 5th grade class for their kindness and helping hand to others. What a great evening that was and to see our future leaders at work. Congratulations to those young lady and gentleman. Remember JUST ASK ONE person to become a member! Yours in Lionism DG Tom Zickefoose Hello Lions, From Your First Vice District Governor - FVDG Barb Sorkin May turned into a busy month. The State Convention was an exciting weekend of Lions activities. Congratulations to Lion Betty Robbins, Zone 3 Chairperson on becoming our Second Vice District Governor elect. Have inducted a few new members to the Lions Clubs and still working on getting things line up for my year as Governor. The end of the month I will be at Salt Fork for a day of training regarding becoming Governor. ATTENTION CLUB PRESIDENTS AND SECRETARIES Please send me a copy of your PU101 form that you sent to International. If I don't receive this information, your club will not be in the District Directory, because to chase down 53 clubs to get the information will take a long time and besides the District Directory needs to be in use as soon as possible. You may send this thru e-mail or the US Mail. My e-mail address is bsorkin42@gmail.com. Have already received this information from some clubs. Thank you to those who are on the ball. Yours in Lionism FVDG Barbara Sorkin Hello District D Lions, From Your Second Vice District Governor - SVDG Bob Allgood First I would like to congratulate ZC Lion Betty Robbins for stepping up. You will make a GREAT SVDG. Wow, what a state convention MD 13 put on. Lion Liz and I had a great time. We met several times with FVP Joe Preston and wife Lion Joni, what a super couple. I would also like to congratulate PDG Bob Whited for receiving the Presidential medal - will deserved. We hosted a hospitality room with SVDG/PDG Homer Rice from District H and was told that at one point we had the busiest room!! Next up for me will be super training weekend at Salt Fork State Park. Lions of District D remember to just ask one non Lion to come to your meeting, fundraiser, or picnic. Let them see what your clubs are about then they just might want to join the fun of being a Lion. Thank you everyone for what you do in the name of Lionism. Remember to just ask ONE to visit your club and to join your club. Yours in Lionism, SVDG Bob Allgood 2
