[Sila pastikan bahawa kertas peperiksaan ini mengandungi ENAM muka surat yang bercetak sebelum anda memulakan peperiksaan ini.] This paper consists of SEVEN questions. [Kertas soalan ini mengandungi TUJUH soalan.] Instruction: Answer FIVE questions. If candidate answers more than five questions only the first five questions answered in the answer script would be examined. [Arahan: Jawab LIMA soalan. [a] Describe the following latex dipping method: (i) straight dipping (ii) coagulant dipping (iii) heat-sensitized dipping Huraikan kaedah pencelupan lateks berikut: (i) pencelupan lurus (ii) pencelupan berkoagulan (iii) pencelupan kepekaan suhu (60 marks/markah) Discuss FOUR factors affecting leaching of latex gloves. Bincangkan EMPAT faktor yang mempengaruhi pengurasan bagi sarung tangan lateks. 2. [a] Describe a complete dipping process to make latex gloves with chlorination treatment by chlorine water. The discussion must be supported by suitable flow chart. Huraikan satu proses pencelupan yang lengkap untuk pembuatan sarung tangan lateks yang dirawat dengan pengklorinan menggunakan air klorin. Perbincangan mesti disokong dengan carta aliran yang bersesuaian. (70 marks/markah) Discuss THREE techniques used to reduce the extractable protein in natural rubber latex gloves. Bincangkan TIGA teknik yang digunakan untuk mengurangkan protein terekstrak dalam sarung tangan getah asli. (30 marks/markah)...3/-

- 3-3. Discuss the following subject. Bincangkan subjek berikut. [a] Coating with hydrogel materials to produce powderless surgeons gloves. Penyalutan bahan hidrogel untuk menghasilkan sarung tangan pembedahan tanpa serbuk. Nitrosamine and latex allergy. Nitrosamina dan alergi lateks. 4. [a] You are given three samples of natural latex with characteristics as below. Explain three tests how you can differentiate these latex samples. (i) Field latex with 0.2% ammonium content. (ii) A new stock of KOH latex. (iii) KOH latex that has been stored in airtight container for 3 years. Anda diberi tiga sampel lateks getah asli yang mempunyai ciri-ciri seperti di bawah. Terangkan tiga ujian bagaimana anda dapat membezakan sampel lateks ini. (i) Lateks ladang dengan 0.2% kandungan ammonia. (ii) Lateks pekat KOH yang baru dibeli. (iii) Lateks pekat KOH yanq sudah disimpan dalam bekas yang kedap udara selama 3 tahun. (60 marks/markah) 4/-

- 4 - The chemicals used in latex compounding can be divided into three general classifications. Give short description of surface active agents and liquid phase modifiers classifications. Bahan kimia yang digunakan dalam penyebatian lateks dapat dikelaskan kepada tiga kumpulan umum. Berikan secara ringkas pengelasan bagi agen aktif permukaan dan pengubahsuaian fasa cecair. 5. [a] Write down a general formulation to produce whitish latex films. By referring to the chosen formulation, calculate the actual parts by mass and discuss the function of each compounding ingredients. Berikan satu formulasi umum untuk menghasilkan filem lateks yang putih. Merujuk kepada formulasi yang dipilih, kirakan berat sebenar dan bincangkan fungsi setiap ramuan penyebatian. With the aid of flow chart, briefly discuss the preparation of sulphur prevulcanized natural rubber latex and explain the best methods for assessing the degree of optimum vulcanization of natural rubber latex compound. Dengan bantuan carta aliran, bincangkan secara ringkas langkah-langkah penghasilan pra-pemvulkanan sulfur bagi lateks getah asli dan bincangkan kaedah-terbaik untuk mengukur darjah pemvulkanan optima sebatian lateks getah asli. 5/-

- 5-6. [a] With appropriate diagram, briefly discuss the repulsive forces that exist in between latex particles that contribute to colloidal stability of natural rubber latex. Dengan bersertakan gambarajah yang sesuai, bincangkan dengan ringkas dayadaya penolakan yang wujud antara partikel lateks yang menyumbang kepada kestabilan koloid lateks getah asli. Most of latex products are made by destabilization of latex particles. The process of destabilization of latex can take one of the three forms listed below. Explain the differences between these three processes. (i) Gelation (ii) Flocculation (iii) Agglomeration Kebanyakan produk lateks dihasilkan melalui proses penyahstabilan partikel lateks. Proses penyahstabilan boleh melalui satu daripada bentuk yang disenaraikan di bawah. Terangkan perbezaan antara tiga proses ini. (i) Penggelan (ii) Pengelompokan (iii) Penggumpalan (30 marks/markah) [c] Briefly, discuss theories explaining the mechanism of film formation for natural rubber latex. (i) Pinholes (ii) Webbing (iii) Lumpy deposits (iv) Stains (v) Transverse striations Bincangkan kecacatan berikut bagi sarung tangan lateks dan cadangkan penyelesaiannya. (i) Pinholes (ii) Webbing (iii) Lumpy deposits (iv) Stains (v) Transverse striations Give the definition of natural rubber latex. Berikan definisi lateks getah asli. (10 marks/markah) [c] Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of creaming process as a method for concentration of field latex as compared to centrifugation process.
