Bowl for Kids Sake 2016 Hawaiian Beach Party- Luau at the Lanes! Participant Handbook Presented by
What is Bowl for Kids Sake? Bowl for Kids Sake is Big Brothers Big Sisters signature annual fundraising activity, with about one-third of our annual operating costs covered by this event. Last year we raised an incredible $140,000 and this year we hope to raise a similar amount with the valuable support of individuals and companies who care about the future of our youth. Bowl for Kids Sake is a fun event in which individuals, friends, classmates, colleagues, and families can participate in teams to raise sponsorship dollars in support of mentoring programs in our community. This year s theme Hawaiian Beach Party Luau at the Lanes was chosen so that extra fun can be added to an already exciting day! In addition to seeking sponsors, participants are welcomed to raise funds for their team through a variety of fun and simple activities. You are also welcome to donate prizes -- products or services, both big and small -- to the event for use in prize draws and as fundraising incentives. Through the participation of hundreds of bowlers and thousands of sponsors, Bowl for Kids Sake plays an important role in helping us spread the word about the need for caring Mentors to help youth in our community. Funds raised by this event go directly to the costs of screening and training volunteers, matching children with these caring adult volunteers and the ongoing stringent supervision of these matches. Throughout 2015, over 350 youth in Saint John, Kings and Charlotte County were matched with a one-to-one Mentor in one of our mentoring programs including a Big Brother, Big Sister, Big Couple match or an In-School adult or teen Mentor match. 148 of these youth were served through our group mentoring programs. Unfortunately, there are currently over 130 youth still waiting to be matched in one of these programs. This is where you can help! Bowl for Kids Sake is an important strategy supporting our goal of ultimately serving more children and to continue providing services to the 400 children currently involved in our mentoring programs. Your support of Bowl for Kids Sake is vital to helping children realize and share their full potential. It s not about bowling: it s about having fun and helping kids! Great Prizes! Prizes for taking part in fun activities during the event! Prizes for various fundraising levels for individual and team bowlers! The best prize of all a fantastic time! Participants must raise a minimum of $100 to be eligible for prizes! Hawaiian Beach Party Luau at the Lanes Theme Everyone loves a Hawaiian Luau! Let us take you to the Beach!!

Make sure that you let them know about all the excitement of bowling day - the prizes, the costumes and the great feeling from doing something positive to help kids here in Saint John and Southern New Brunswick. Try to assign a co-captain to share the responsibilities (not necessary but helpful). 2. Register Your Team. Please register as soon as possible to ensure your place in the event. BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS FACTS For over 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been making a positive difference in the lives of the children across the nation by developing and implementing a wide range of mentoring programs, one-to-one and group programs, for both in school and outside of school. Each time we pair a child with a volunteer we start something incredible a life-changing relationship built on trust, friendship and empowerment. Serving as role models our mentors teach by example the importance of giving and giving back, of staying in school, and of having respect for family, peers and community. For 44 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saint John has been making a positive difference in the lives of children and youth in our community by developing and implementing a wide range of mentoring programs. Imagine the possibilities if every child had the opportunity to reach his or her potential. Research has proven that mentoring changes the trajectory of young lives! Some key findings of the study include: - Girls with a Big Sister are two and a half times more likely than girls without a mentor to be confident in their ability to be successful at school. - Boys with a Big Brother are three times less likely than boys without a mentor to suffer peer pressure related anxiety, such as worrying about what other children think or say about them. - Mentored boys are two times more likely to believe that school is fun and that doing well academically is important. - Mentored boys are also two times less likely than non-mentored boys to develop negative conducts like bullying, fighting, lying, cheating, losing their temper or expressing anger. An investment in Big Brothers Big Sisters is an investment in children and youth! Thank you for your support!
