The INTEREST Workshop initiative was launched in 2007 and spearheaded by Professors Joep M.A. Lange (Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development (AIGHD), Academic Medical Center, Department of Global Health / University of Amsterdam) and Charles A.B. Boucher (Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam, University of Rotterdam). Together with a prominent group of international experts in the field of HIV/AIDS, an annual international meeting in Africa has been developed. During these meetings, experts in the field of HIV prevention and treatment share their knowledge and views on a variety of HIV related topics. UNIQUE MEETING FEATURES The INTEREST workshop is a unique scientific platform where clincians and researchers from sub-saharan Africa and key persons from other parts of the world are brought together to present and discuss the latest developments in treatment, pathogenesis and prevention research. The workshop gives young researchers the possibility to present their data and to communicate with colleagues and key persons in the field. 2016 EDITION OF INTEREST The 2016 edition of the INTEREST attracted over 474 registrations from 21 countries. Most of them (32%) were motivated to attend the event by the meeting objectives and by the scientific program (31%).The meeting gathered the clinicians and researchers involved in the field of HIV/AIDS and hepatitis as is illustrated by the charts below: High success rates and consistent positive feedback. The conference was very well received which reflected by the evaluation results. 90% of the respondents indicated that the lectures given in this workshop have increased their knowledge of the challenges of HIV care in RLS; 87% agreed that this program is beneficial for the clinical management of their patients; 90% reported that they intend to incorporate the new information into the care of their patients. An average of 91% of the respondents agreed that the meeting objectives were met. 98% of the respondents reported that they will recommend this educational event to their peers and 95% of the respondents indicated that they plan to attend this workshop next time.
