Volunteer Area: Floral Service at IMMC Floral Manager: Lani Moeller Tell us about yourself: I am originally from NE Iowa, but have lived in Des Moines since 2000. I have been in the floral business for the last 12 years. My career paths have always been based in design, but I found my true passion when I started working in a local floral shop. I worked there for 3 years as an Volunteer Donna Bastion, Lani and volunteer Betty Vander Wiel assistant manager and wedding floral designer before leaving to work as a sales rep at a local floral wholesaler. I was there for 9 years before coming to work at Unity Point. I have a 6 year old son named Milo and he is the joy of my life! How did you end up working at UPH Des Moines? I had wanted to get back into a design position again, so when I heard about the Floral Supervisor opening here I reached out to Andrea (the Gift Shop Manager). After meeting with her and seeing all of the great people and opportunities here I knew that this was exactly the place I had been looking for! Page 4 of 10

What do you enjoy about your job? I love being able to create with flowers all day we are incredibly busy and there is always work to do. I also have the opportunity to connect with a lot of local suppliers and growers and it is incredible to be able to support this thriving community of smaller local farmers. Tell us about your volunteers. I love my team of volunteers! They are a joy to work with and all have such devoted, kind hearts. It s is very meaningful to me to know that our hard work ultimately brightens someone s day or comforts someone in need. This position gives us a lot of creative freedom and I think that allows us each to thrive in our own ways. It really is very hard work! My team and I are constantly tackling a never ending todo list. Our days involve a lot of planning, dedication, long hours, and hard work. It s definitely a labor of love, but we get through it! The key is to laugh a lot Lani and volunteers, Donna Bastian and Betty Vander Wiel Page 5 of 10
