A Homœopathic Remedy Guide for First Aid and Acute Care of Minor Illness By Douglas Falkner, MD, MHom
How to use this Guide Welcome to the wonderful world of homœopathy and its application to the promotion of health and well- being! With just a little bit of effort and care, you will have the privilege of witnessing homœopathy work its magic, when friends and family experience the effects of accident, injury, or minor illness. Whether for first- aid, acute care, mild or serious illness, or chronic disease, homœopathic medicines must always be individualized. There is a universal law of healing that is described by what homœopaths call the Law of Similars. The Law of Similars states that what symptoms a substance can cause in a healthy person it can cure in the sick. Experience has shown than each homœopathic remedy produces its own pattern or style of symptoms, as does each ailment or disease condition that may befall an individual. Healing occurs when the medicine administered has the properties of stimulating a symptom pattern most similar to what the patient is suffering. What we homœopaths say is that homœopathy treats the person in the disease, not the disease in the person. Therefore, even in first- aid and acute conditions, the remedy that will work best is always the one whose symptoms agree with those of the patient. When the two patterns match well that is, when the symptoms of the patient match the symptoms caused by a remedy we can generally expect a rapid, gentle, safe, and complete restoration of health, a true cure! Below you will find outlined some thirty- two common emergency, first- aid, and acute conditions. Each condition is followed with suggestions of the top remedies commonly associated with successful treatment of the listed condition. Following these, you will find a glossary of Materia Medica covering most of the remedies suggested. The Materia Medica section gives a more extensive and complete description of the symptom profile and symptom pattern of each remedy cited. The purpose of both the outline for common conditions and the Materia Medica section is to make identification of the most suitable remedy both straight- forward and as simple as possible. Always remember that the goal for successful treatment is to find the remedy that most closely matches all the prominent and most characteristic symptoms in each individual case. The biggest trap people fall into when working with homœopathy is to think of remedies as being for this or that. The remedy that will work in one person for a given circumstance will not necessarily work for another in the same circumstance. Conversely, two very different conditions may call for the same remedy. When you want to know if the remedy you are considering is likely to work, your mantra and motto should be: Best when the symptoms agree!
