WE CARE PALESTINE TO HOST NEIGHBOR OF YEAR AWARD Nominations due February 16 by Tracy Torma WE CARE Palestine is seeking nominations for the Good Neighbor of the Year Award. The honor recognizes area residents who exemplify caring and supporting neighbors in their neighborhood. All nominees will be honored at the first annual WE CARE Palestine Good Neighbor Banquet on Tuesday, February 27, at the Ben E. Keith Community Center. The banquet, which starts at 6 p.m., will feature a presentation by Mack McCarter, founder and coordinator of Community Renewal International (CRI) in Shreveport, the community renewal model on which WE CARE Palestine is based. Over the past 20 years, Shreveport has seen major crime drop up to 45 percent in the targeted areas where CRI has been at work. The Rev. Lynn Willhite began WE CARE Palestine in 2015 to strengthen caring relationships across the city so that every citizen feels a sense of belonging, connection and purpose. Moved by the underlying spirit of the initiative to love your neighbor as yourself, Rev. Willhite desires to develop the same caring culture across the city of Palestine, where she grew up. The ultimate goal of the WE CARE Palestine community renewal effort is to transform our city by restoring and strengthening the most important foundational unit of every community its positive, caring relationships. We want to honor the people in our city who are making a difference in their neighborhoods through both small and big acts of love and kindness. ~ WE CARE Palestine founder Lynn Willhite We want to honor the people in our city who are making a difference in their neighborhoods through both small and big acts of love and kindness, Willhite notes.
