YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS Hello my FUMC Family, I cannot believe it s already February! We have so much to look forward to with our youth group and we are excited to tell you. First of all, we are so thankful for all of those that helped with D-NOW 2018! A special thanks to Youth Director Adrian Lucio the host families and awesome team leaders; it was a great success, and we are looking forward to making it happen again next year! We are now preparing for Midwinter weekend that s going to be taking place at Lakeview Camp. The kids are excited and will be partnering up with other Methodist churches in our conference. We will be challenging ourselves with the ropes course and playing a round of paintball. We can t wait to show you pictures! The youth will be hosting a Valentine s Luncheon after church on Sunday, February 11, for our church singles and widows. We are blessed to have the opportunity to serve our own church and be a blessing to those who need it. Our Worship center has new renovations! We have installed new stage trusses and darkened the stage backdrop! It looks amazing! Thank you to the Smiths for your help and support. We love you! We also greatly appreciate the youth meals! We are continually growing and are in dire need of meals, please be sure to look at the sign-up sheet in the Narthex, or contact me for more information. As spring break approaches, we are still adhering to our theme for 2018, Fixing Our Eyes. We are in camp mode, and ready to step out and join God s army. We have hands and feet READY to serve, AIMING for Christ, and carrying the FIRE of the Holy Spirit with us. Amen Serving Him, Adrian Lucio The junior high Sunday school class collaborates to build a paper bridge to support as many blocks as possible. The activity was an extension of their lesson on wisdom in the book of Proverbs.

WE CARE PALESTINE TO HOST NEIGHBOR OF YEAR AWARD Nominations due February 16 by Tracy Torma WE CARE Palestine is seeking nominations for the Good Neighbor of the Year Award. The honor recognizes area residents who exemplify caring and supporting neighbors in their neighborhood. All nominees will be honored at the first annual WE CARE Palestine Good Neighbor Banquet on Tuesday, February 27, at the Ben E. Keith Community Center. The banquet, which starts at 6 p.m., will feature a presentation by Mack McCarter, founder and coordinator of Community Renewal International (CRI) in Shreveport, the community renewal model on which WE CARE Palestine is based. Over the past 20 years, Shreveport has seen major crime drop up to 45 percent in the targeted areas where CRI has been at work. The Rev. Lynn Willhite began WE CARE Palestine in 2015 to strengthen caring relationships across the city so that every citizen feels a sense of belonging, connection and purpose. Moved by the underlying spirit of the initiative to love your neighbor as yourself, Rev. Willhite desires to develop the same caring culture across the city of Palestine, where she grew up. The ultimate goal of the WE CARE Palestine community renewal effort is to transform our city by restoring and strengthening the most important foundational unit of every community its positive, caring relationships. We want to honor the people in our city who are making a difference in their neighborhoods through both small and big acts of love and kindness. ~ WE CARE Palestine founder Lynn Willhite We want to honor the people in our city who are making a difference in their neighborhoods through both small and big acts of love and kindness, Willhite notes. To nominate someone in your neighborhood, please send their name(s), address and a brief description of why they are a good neighbor (300 words or less) to WE CARE Palestine, P.O. Box 3468, Palestine, TX 75802, or email the nomination to lynn@wecarepalestine.org. Nominations will be accepted through February 16. Tickets for the Good Neighbor Banquet are $15 per person and can be purchased at the Palestine Chamber of Commerce, Eilenberger s Bakery and the Multi-Culture Educational Center during business hours or by contacting Lynn Willhite at 903-922-6149. Reserved tables of six can be purchased for $90. To sponsor a table, please contact Sharon Grizzle at 903-584-0238.
