MISSION Strengthen local capacities in developing countries to reduce the impact of infectious diseases on vulnerable population In partnership with Fondation Christophe et Rodolphe Mérieux (Institut de France)

OUR STRATEGY 1. Strengthen local clinical biology and applied research capacities for a better identification of infectious diseases. 2. Increase the access, for vulnerable populations, to a quality biological diagnosis for an appropriate treatment 3. Promote, trough Les Pensières Conference Centre, exchange between public health actors to contribute to the diffusion and the development of knowledge on infectious diseases, and foster the emergence of innovative projects.

THE GABRIEL NETWORK Create a research community around the Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratories Transfer of technologies and knowledge laboratory expertise in the field of infectious diseases evaluation and tests development for pathogens detection common tools (data base, procedures, reagents, online portal, logistic, biosecurity, ethic, publications) research trainings for scientists and local technicians Multicentric projects on epidemiological projects respiratory infections resistant tuberculosis Support to local projects: tuberculosis, malaria, fevers, HIV More than 45 researchers in 11 countries in Asia, Middle-East, in Africa, in Latine America, the Carribbean and in Europe Budget 2010: 640 000 of which 65% are covered by European Commission (project ReST-ACMI)

ACCESS TO DIAGNOSIS TUBERCULOSIS China: detection of treatment resistance in two provinces : Zhe Jiang and Heilong Jiang Madagascar : improvement of the detection of new contagious pulmonary TB cases in enclosed areas: Support setting of 40 tuberculosis treatment centres Training of 100% of the centres staff Support setting of 80 positions of advanced collections Ethiopia: better detection and monitoring of populations leaving in rural areas 2280 new cases diagnosed in 2009 94% of patients are diagnosed during the first 3 months of infection A 92% recovery rate and a 5% mortality rate HIV Laos: introduction of viral load by the Christophe Mérieux for the therapeutic monitoring of persons infected with HIV. On 30 april 2010, 378 samples (378 patients) received at the Centre of Infectiology Christophe Mérieux. Women represent 43% of whole individuals.
