Introduction The Suite is designed to provide a set of simple bio and neurofeedback screens to clinicians who want to use their BioGraph Infiniti software system to its full capacity and with the widest range of physiological sensor possibilities, in one small toolbox. The suite includes channel sets for ProComp Infiniti, ProComp 5 and ProComp 2 which combine standard biofeedback, EEG neurofeedback and passive infrared (pir) sensors. For each encoder type, you will find a collection of essential screens, implementing the most current training protocols for HRV, classic relaxation and EEG brainwave training. As with all Thought Technology s specialized application suites, you are also getting the review screens you need to assess your client s progress. Because it is released along with BioGraph version 6.0, the suite integrates a number of powerful new features which will allow you to offer your clients training capabilities that are unavailable anywhere else, including: Blood Pressure Monitor Interface Dynamic EEG driven binaural beat brainwave entrainment Real time EEG artefact rejection Powerful off-line reviewing tools Numerous new computation algorithms And more Suite Description Encoders and Sensors The Suite includes BioGraph components for three types of Thought Technology encoder devices: ProComp Infiniti (8 inputs), ProComp 5 (5 inputs) and ProComp 2 (2 inputs). The suite setup allows you to select which component(s) to install. To avoid cluttering your system, we recommend you install only the components for the encoder(s) that you own. Once the suite is installed, you will find a number of new Favorites in BioGraph s Quick Start section in the Category. Each Favorite is defined to run a specific clinical protocol and has the appropriate session configuration elements - such as Training and Review screens - already selected. All you need to do is select a Favorite and run it. Most session configurations included in the suite are designed to work with the new Blood Pressure interface feature which can trigger periodic blood pressure readings when you have A&D Medical s UA- 767PC Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor device installed on your computer. When the device is included in the hardware configuration, BioGraph checks for the device at the beginning of a session. If a device is not detected, it asks if you want to continue anyway. Click Yes to continue recording the session without the device. 1

ProComp Infiniti Sensor Configurations The ProComp Infiniti channel sets integrate the largest variety of sensor types in compact and powerful signal processing engines which allow you to record and review sessions with many sensor combinations. The two groups of channel set and Favorite options are based on whether you are using a blood volume pulse (BVP) or an EKG sensor as a heart rate monitor. When recording a training session, you can connect all the sensors that are defined in the channel set or connect only the sensors for the specific Favorite you are running. The tables below describe the sensor type to encoder input correspondence: PI General Bio/Neurofeedback (BVP or EKG) A BVP B EEG C EMG D Skin conductance E Temperature F Respiration G TT-pIR (left) H TT-pIR (right) Input # A B C D E F G H Sensor Type EKG EEG EMG Skin conductance Temperature Respiration TT-pIR (left) TT-pIR (right) ProComp 5 Sensor Configurations The ProComp 5 channel sets combine sensor types for specific applications, including EEG, HRV, physiology and passive infrared (pir). There are three specific configurations, each with either a BVP or an EKG sensor. Each Favorite is defined with one of these sensor configurations: P5 EEG & Phys (BVP or EKG) P5 EEG & HRV (BVP or EKG) P5 EEG & pir (BVP or EKG) A BVP or EKG A BVP or EKG A BVP or EKG B EEG B EEG B EEG C EMG C EMG C Temperature D Skin conductance D Skin conductance D TT-pIR (left) E Temperature E Respiration E TT-pIR (right) ProComp 2 Sensor Configurations The ProComp 2 channel sets are defined with specific applications in mind and sensor types are paired come with either a BVP or an EKG sensor defined as the heart rate monitor. 2

For each protocol, you will find two types of screen: Training screens are used to record feedback sessions. Review/Report screens are used post-recording, to assess your client s success, reject any artifact and generate relevant statistics. Overall Recording and Reviewing Screens EEG & Physiology - Signal Quality Monitor 3 The screen shows the raw data from all sensors on individual line graphs. Use this screen at the beginning of a session to verify that your sensors are correctly placed and that you are recording good

signal quality. You can also use this screen to monitor a client s physiological responses when no feedback is required. EEG & Physiology - Signal Trends This review screen gives you a quick overview of a whole session on individual trend graphs. Use this screen, after a session, to demonstrate changes over time and reinforce newly learned skills. The trend graphs show you a series of periodic means for key physiological factors, including: For EKG or BVP, heart rate and percentage of total power of VLF, LF and HF. For EEG, percentage of total power of low inhibit, reward and high inhibit EEG bands. For Respiration, respiration rate. For EMG, SC and Temp, signal means. Specialized Recording and Reviewing Screens EEG - 3 bands - Training 4

This training screen implements a simple three condition neurofeedback protocol, which encourages the amplitude of EEG activity in one Reward band while discouraging it in a Low and a High Inhibit band. You can adjust the cut-off frequencies for each band on the fly. The three bar graphs have manual thresholds that you can tweak for optimal learning conditions. A trend graph shows changes over time, so you know right away that the training is working and your client is learning. In order to ensure that you are training EEG and not noise, you can monitor the EEG signal s quality and adjust the Real Time EEG Artifact Rejection limits on the fly. The screen gives audio feedback when the success conditions are met. EEG - 3 bands - Review This review screen is designed to help you review sessions that were recorded with the 3 Bands training screen. It gives you a quick overview of your client s training success with session trends and whole session statistics (mean and standard deviation). You can easily scroll through the recorded data and reject any artifact either manually or automatically before generating clinically relevant statistics. EEG - Alpha dominant frequency - Training 5

This specialized EEG training screen uses BioGraph 6.0 s new Dynamic, EEG Driven Binaural Beat Pacer to teach your client to generate high frequency alpha waves (10-12 Hertz) with auditory entrainment. With headphones on, your client relaxes while listening to slowly shifting binaural beat tones and allows his brain to respond to the gentle stimulation by following the entrainment. To ensure optimal entrainment, the binaural beat pacer constantly monitors your client s ability to follow and dynamically adjusts its pacing accordingly. The screen displays moment to moment changes in alpha dominant frequency, which allows you to monitor your client s progress. EEG - Alpha dominant frequency - Review Use this screen to review sessions that were recorded with the alpha dominant frequency training screen. The trend graph gives you a quick view of your client s progress during the session and you can scan the whole session to see moment by moment changes in dominant alpha frequency. Using the raw EEG graph, you can easily scroll through the recorded data and reject any artifact either manually or automatically. EEG - Alpha Theta - Training 6

BioGraph 6.0 s new Computation Algorithms make this training screen the easiest tool for alpha theta relaxation training. At the beginning of a session, BioGraph monitors your client s EEG and calculates baseline values for alpha and theta amplitudes. The screen then calculates the baseline ratio and sets it as the zero line in order to start training from a balanced position. This takes away the need for manual adjustment and makes any shift in EEG power more obvious to the client and easier to feed back on. EEG - Alpha Theta - Review The alpha theta review screen is designed to give you a quick overview of your client s training success with session trends and whole session statistics (mean and standard deviation). You can easily scroll through the recorded data and reject any artifact either manually or automatically. 7

HRV & BP - Training This classic HRV biofeedback training screen teaches your clients to do coherent breathing and allows you to monitor changes in blood pressure during the session. BioGraph s new Blood Pressure Monitor Interface allows you to trigger blood pressure readings at any time during a biofeedback session by pressing F11 on your keyboard. BioGraph keeps track of - and generates statistics for - systolic and diastolic blood pressure measures as it does for any other physiological signal. Note that the device has a one minute recuperation period during which blood pressure readings cannot be triggered. The device s front display indicates that it is ready for a reading by replacing the numeric display of the previous blood pressure reading with dashes. 8

HRV & BP - Review The HRV Review screen shows a graph of the respiration and heart rate signals, along with a tachogram display of inter-beat interval (IBI), to help you assess your client s ability to do coherent breathing. The screen also displays systolic and diastolic blood pressure values for each reading you made during the session and whole session statistics for a number of HRV and blood pressure metrics. Physiology & Blood Pressure - Training 9

This multi-modality training screen combines skin conductance, temperature and EMG to create the perfect relaxation exercise. With your guidance, your clients can learn to perceive and control the key physiological changes associated with the stress response while decreasing muscle tension, warming up their hands and decrease arousal. This screen also takes advantage of BioGraph s new Blood Pressure Monitor Interface to allow you to take blood pressure readings during the training session. Physiology & Blood Pressure - Review The reviewing screen shows you changes in skin conductance, temperature and EMG over time and gives whole session statistics for each physiological measure as well as systolic and diastolic blood pressure. EMG - Relaxation - Training This simple relaxation screen monitors muscle tension (EMG) and gives instantaneous feedback when your client s muscle(s) relax below the threshold. When success is achieved, the graph signal turns green, the client hears music and a Smiley face animation gives instantaneous positive feedback. Use the 10

EEG & Physiology - Signal Quality Monitor, EEG & Physiology - Signal Trends or Physiology & Blood Pressure Review screens to review sessions. Skin Conductance - Relaxation - Training This simple relaxation screen monitors skin conductance and gives instantaneous feedback when your client manages to decrease his arousal level below the threshold. When success is achieved, the graph signal turns pink, the client hears music and a Smiley face animation gives instantaneous positive feedback. The screen also monitors the number of skin conductance responses which occur during the session. Use the EEG & Physiology - Signal Quality Monitor, EEG & Physiology - Signal Trends or Physiology & Blood Pressure Review screens to review sessions. Temperature - Relaxation - Training This simple relaxation screen monitors temperature and gives instantaneous feedback when your client manages to warm his hands up above the threshold. When success is achieved, the graph signal turns green, the client hears music and a Smiley face animation gives instantaneous positive feedback. Use the 11

EEG & Physiology - Signal Quality Monitor, EEG & Physiology - Signal Trends or Physiology & Blood Pressure Review screens to review sessions. pir - Training This screen is used for passive infrared training (pir). When the signal increases over threshold, indicating a warming up of the area below the sensors, the client hears music and the animation plays. pir - Review Use the pir Review screen to assess the client s success. The trend graph at the bottom of the screen shows changes over time. Whole session mean and standard deviation is shown at the top of the screen. Going beyond The Suite expands the scope of your biofeedback practice by adding powerful new tools which allow you to combine standard physiological biofeedback with EEG neurofeedback and pir training in a compact specialised application suite. 12
