COMMISSION FOR YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY ( COMMISSION ) Job Descriptions FOR ALL TEAM MEMBERS FOR 2012-2013 The Commission for Young Adult Ministry exists to support the ministry to and with young adults in the Archdiocese of Vancouver. The Commission uses its core purpose as a guide for its actions and decisions: GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR ALL TEAM MEMBERS Attend monthly Commission Meetings. Advocate for Young Adult Ministry within their parishes. Be a conduit for information between the Commission and their parishes. Participate as actively as possible in diocesan young adult events. GENERAL QUALITIES FOR ALL TEAM MEMBERS Passion for young adults. Ability to work with others and appreciate other people s ideas, cultures, and opinions. Demonstrated leadership abilities in parish, archdiocesan, and/or other ministry work. Appreciation of our Church, Young Adult Ministry, and the Vision and Goals of the Commission of the Archdiocese of Vancouver. Registered in a parish in the Archdiocese of Vancouver. Willing to commit to one year of team membership. ACCOUNTABILITY All members of the Commission are accountable to the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry in the Archdiocese of Vancouver COMMISSION TEAMS EXECUTIVE TEAM COMMITTEE TEAM Responsible for keeping the focus of the Commission centered on its goals and vision. Sets and guides the agenda for the monthly meetings. Creates a plan for Young Adult Ministry in the first half of the term. Implements the plan in the second half of the term. Job Title Commission Chair: OYYAM Consultant for Young Adult Ministry The OYYAM Consultant for Young Adult Ministry (CYAM) is the chair of the Commission for Young Adult Ministry. The CYAM leads and guides the team by setting meeting agendas and running Commission meetings. The CYAM interfaces with the Office of Youth & Young Adult Ministry to ensure the Commission maintains its connection with the archdiocese. Leadership/guidance of the team. Liaison to archdiocesan offices. Maintaining budget and financial information. Setting meeting agendas. Job Title Secretary The Secretary will be responsible for keeping notes during Commission meetings. He/she will provide the notes to the team for review and approval. The Secretary will also maintain the current contact list of the Commission members and of all the parish contacts in the archdiocese. Note taking at meetings and providing notes to team. Keeping current contact information for team and young adult ministry contacts in the parishes and campuses. Job Title Communications Officer The Communications Officer will create a communications strategy and be the primary person responsible for publicizing information and communicating with young adults and young adult ministry coordinators. He/she will assist with our web presence in various forms, assist with print and online media, and promote events with information provided by the committee teams. Job Title At-Large Advisor Parish Priest The At-Large Advisor Priest will be a parish priest who understands the importance of young adult ministry. He will advise the Commission from the perspective of being an archdiocesan parish priest to ensure we keep a proper parish mindset when planning events. He will advocate for young adult ministry with his brother priests in the archdiocese. Advise the Commission from a priest s perspective. Advocate for young adult ministry with his brother priests. Job Title At-Large Advisor Parish Representative The At-Large Advisor Parish Representative will be a person who understands the importance of young adult ministry. He or she will advise the Commission from the perspective of a parishioner to ensure we keep a proper parish mindset when planning events. The Parish Representative will advocate for young adult ministry in the various archdiocesan networks in which he or she might participate. Advise the Commission from a parish staff perspective. Job Title Parish YA Ministry Co-Chair (2) Committee The Parish YA Ministry Co-Chairs will primarily be responsible for working with the Parish YA Ministry Committee to provide opportunities for young adult ministers to network and to provide training and resources for young adult ministers in the archdiocese. They will work with parishes to understand the importance of being young adult friendly and/or providing comprehensive young adult ministry at their parish. They will also work to reach out to parishes without young adult contacts to help them become more young adult friendly by adding a contact person at their parish. o Networking opportunities for young adult ministers. o Building a network of contacts at each parish in the archdiocese. o With committee, responsible for providing Young Adult Ministry training opportunities. o Providing assistance and resources to parishes about being young adult friendly and about comprehensive young adult ministry. o Help young adult Commission to become proficient in training others about growing young adult ministry. Form a Committee Job Title Formation Co-Chair (2) Committee The Formation Co-Chairs will primarily be responsible for working with the Formation Committee to provide spiritual and catechetical opportunities for young adults in the archdiocese. These opportunities could include retreats, praise & worship events, Theology on Tap, discussion groups, etc. o Strategies for parishes o A listing of current programs and services that young adults can already plug into o Archdiocesan-wide spiritual & catechetical events for young adults in the archdiocese not currently offered Providing information about other spiritual & catechetical opportunities to the Communications person to publicize. Work with At Large Advisor Parish Priest to ensure that the Commission s activities are aligned with and accurately convey our Catholic teachings. Job Title Service Co-Chair (2) Committee The Service Co-Chairs will primarily be responsible for working with the Service Committee to administer service opportunities for young adults. The Service will organize and provide publicity for each event. o Strategies for parishes o A listing of current programs and services that young adults can already plug into o Archdiocesan-wide and regional service events not currently offered to young adults Providing information about other service opportunities to Communications person to publicize. Liaise with the Office of Service and Justice. Form a Committee Job Title Social and Recreational Co-Chair (2) Committee The Social and Recreational Co-Chairs will primarily be responsible for working with the Social and Recreational Committee to provide social and recreational opportunities for young adults in the archdiocese. These opportunities could include hikes, talent shows, day trips, BBQ s, sports events, etc. o Strategies for parishes o A listing of current programs and services that young adults can already plug into o Archdiocesan-wide social & recreational events for young adults in the archdiocese Provide information about other social & recreational opportunities to Communications person to publicize. Job Title World Youth Day Co-Chair (2) Committee The World Youth Day Co-Chairs will primarily be responsible for working with the World Youth Day Committee to oversee the plans for the next international World Youth Day and to administer the local archdiocesan efforts on non-international World Youth Day years. Provide information sessions and resources for parishes preparing for the international World Youth Days. Assess the need and create a plan for a pre and post-wyd event for all pilgrims in the Archdiocese. Review the WYD Survey and Checklist. Create a plan for local WYD on Palm Sunday on non-international WYD years.
