Phillips 3 Current Research Projects The influence of mate value and self-esteem on relationship outcomes This is a collaborative effort with Dr. Virgil Zeigler-Hill at the University of Southern Mississippi examining the relationship between various personality variables such as mate value, narcissism and self-esteem and relationship outcomes. Specifically, we are examining the amount of attention paid to potential alternative relationship partners. The primary hypotheses of this study are that narcissists and those with high mate value relative to their current partners will pay more attention to potential alternative relationship partners than non-narcissists and those with low mate value relative to their current partners. Beauty: It s a gift and a curse An investigation of the influence of attractiveness on forgiveness following an interpersonal offense This project is a series of studies investigating whether the attractiveness and/or mate value of a female influences others reactions following an interpersonal offense. The main hypothesis is that males will perceive an apology from an attractive female as more sincere and be more likely to forgive her. In contrast, females will be less likely to forgive an attractive offender regardless of whether or not she offers an apology. Manuscripts in Preparation Phillips, A. (2007).
